The combined use of chiral ionic liquids (CILs) and conventional chiral selectors (CSs) in CE, to establish a synergistic system, has proven to be an effective approach for the separation of enantiomeric pairs. In this study, a new CE method was developed, employing a binary system of a CS, either a cyclodextrin (CD) or a cyclofructan (CF), and a chiral amino acid ester-based ionic liquid (AAIL), for the chiral separation of four basic, acidic and zwitterionic drug compounds. In particular, the enantioseparation of two anticoagulants, warfarin (WAR) and coumachlor (COU), a non-opioid analgesic, nefopam (NEF) and a third-generation antihistamine, fexofenadine (FXD), was examined, by supporting the BGE with a CS and the chiral AAIL L-alanine tert butyl ester lactate (L-AlaC Lac). Parameters, such as the type of the CS, the concentration of both the CS and L-AlaC Lac, and the BGE pH, were methodically examined in order to optimize the chiral separation of each analyte. It was observed that, in some cases, the addition of the AAIL into the BGE improved both resolution (R ) and efficiency (N) significantly. In other cases, the synergistic effect enabled baseline separation of analyte enantiomers, at a much lower concentration of the CS. Finally, after optimization of separation conditions, baseline separations (R >1.5) of all four analytes were achieved in less than 5 min.

The liver, critical for detoxification and metabolic homeostasis, is highly susceptible to oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS). This study evaluated the hepatoprotective effects of a meroterpenoid-rich fraction (MES) from Sargassum serratifolium in a tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP)-induced oxidative liver injury model in mice. MES treatment ameliorated t-BHP-induced histopathological changes, including hepatocyte swelling, cytoplasmic vacuolation, and necrosis.

4--Butylphenol (4-tBP), widely used in manufacturing polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins, is commonly found in aquatic environments globally. This study investigates the chronic (60 days) hepatotoxic effects and the underlying mechanism of 4-tBP on fish, including concentrations with environmental relevance (≤100 μg/L), using L. as the model.

Background: Metabolic reprogramming is a distinctive characteristic of colorectal cancer (CRC) which provides energy and nutrients for rapid proliferation. Although numerous studies have explored the rewired metabolism of CRC, the metabolic alterations occurring in CRC when the cell cycle is arrested by treatment with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), an anticancer drug that arrests the S phase, remain unclear.
Methods: A systematic profiling analysis was conducted as ethoxycarbonyl/methoxime/tert-butyldimethylsilyl derivatives using gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry in HT29 cells and media following 5-FU treatment in a concentration- and time-dependent manner.

The deca-peptide Boc-(d-Phe-tFPro-Val-Leu-Leu)-OMe () (Boc is -but-oxy-carbonyl, tFPro is 4--fluoro-l-proline d-Phe is d-phenyl-alanine, Val is valine and Leu is leucine) crystallized in a methanol-solvated form (CHFNO·CHO). Peptide has a sequence similar to gramicidin S (GS) incorporating tFPro. GS is a cyclic peptide, with the d-Phe-Pro unit known as a strong β-turn inducer in previous studies.

Stable isotope techniques serve as invaluable tools for kinetic measurements in metabolic research. In particular, deuterated water (DO) administration is increasingly being applied in human health research. For use in protein kinetic studies, this includes measurements on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis of alanine (ALA) and deuterium-labeled alanines (d-ALAs) coming from DO administration.
