Background: Fungemia has become an increasingly significant cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients. Sepsis is generally recognized as a hyperdynamic condition, commonly characterized by tachycardia as part of the systemic inflammatory response. However, in rare instances, patients may exhibit a paradoxical response in the form of bradycardia.

Objective: To describe the application of tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) in monitoring cardiac function in cases of fetal intra-abdominal umbilical vein varix (FIUVV).
Methods: The sample consisted of all cases of FIUVV diagnosed in a tertiary medical center between 2018 and 2023 that were assessed by sonographic fetal TAPSE. Cases were identified by retrospective database review.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy show different maternal hemodynamic and cardiovascular profiles going from a hyperdynamic to a hypodynamic condition. These different maternal cardiovascular situations might evolve towards different outcomes and might require targeted approaches. In particular, a hypodynamic maternal cardiovascular profile might be associated to severe and early complications of pregnancy (in particular fetal growth restriction, either isolated or associated to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy).

Mixed apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (MAHCM) is a rare variant of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy characterized by hypertrophy of the left ventricular (LV) apex with septal involvement, increasing the risk of left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction, mid-ventricular obstruction, and adverse cardiovascular events such as syncope and sudden cardiac death. We describe an 84-year-old female with a history of hypertension and hyperlipidemia who presented with a syncopal episode preceded by dizziness, blurred vision, and diaphoresis, with a history of poor oral intake and weight loss. She was hemodynamically stable but exhibited orthostatic changes, and laboratory findings revealed acute kidney injury (AKI) suggesting hypovolemia.

Lower extremity arteriovenous (AV) access serves as a crucial alternative for hemodialysis when upper extremity options are no longer viable. While there are numerous reports on functional patency, limited information exists regarding complications related to venous insufficiency and postoperative quality of life. This study aims to assess the actual incidence of such complications and provide evidence-based insights for clinical decision-making.
