Kounis syndrome, also known as allergic myocardial infarction, is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition in which acute coronary events are triggered by an allergic reaction. The pathophysiology involves mast cell degranulation and the release of inflammatory mediators such as histamine, leukotrienes, and platelet-activating factor, leading to coronary vasospasm, myocardial ischemia, or infarction. We present the case of a female patient in her 80s with no prior history of coronary artery disease who developed anaphylaxis shortly after intravenous administration of co-amoxiclav in the emergency department.

The chick embryo ventricular cardiomyocyte model provides students easy access to experiments involving fundamental features of cardiac cell physiology and pharmacology. Using standard physiology teaching laboratories and basic cell culture equipment, spontaneously beating colonies of electrically-connected cardiomyocytes can be obtained by the students themselves. Students learn, aseptic techniques and cell culture alongside experiments illustrating, at the simplest level of experimentation, how beating rate can be altered physiologically or pharmacologically.

Despite its frequency, there remains limited consensus on optimal pharmacologic management in this population, particularly in the context of balancing efficacy with the unique risks associated with thoracic surgery. This report aims to draw attention to the clinical significance of POAF in thoracic surgery, particularly following pulmonary resections, by presenting a representative case and contextualizing it through a focused review of current literature and consensus guidelines.

Background: Acute myocardial infarction in the elderly often leads to significant left ventricular structural remodeling, which adversely affects prognosis. This study aims to evaluate the effects of intensive rosuvastatin therapy on markers of ventricular remodeling and cardiac function following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in elderly patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).
Methods: This study enrolled 100 patients aged ≥60 years with STEMI who underwent emergency PCI.
