Viscosity generated by oat β-glucan induces gastrointestinal mechanisms that influence appetite. Two oat-based ready-to-eat cereals (RTEC) with similar amounts of β-glucan but differing in their protein and sugar content were compared for their effects on appetite. Forty-seven healthy individuals, ≥18 years old, enrolled in a crossover trial consumed RTEC1 or RTEC2 in random order at least a week apart. Breakfasts contained 250kcals cereal and 105kcals fat-free milk. Subjective ratings of appetite were completed at baseline, and at 30, 60, 120, 180 and 240 minutes after consumption of the breakfast meals. Responses were analyzed as area under the curve (AUC) and per time-point. Significance was set at α=0.05. Fullness (p=0.01) and stomach fullness (p=0.02) were greater with RTEC 1 compared to RTEC 2 at 240 minutes. Stomach fullness (p=0.01) was greater at 30 minutes, and desire to eat (p=0.04) was reduced at 120 minutes with RTEC2 compared to RTEC1. There was no difference in the AUC for hunger, fullness, stomach fullness, desire to eat, or prospective intake. Ready-to-eat cereals containing similar amounts of oat β-glucan differed in the timing of significant differences in fullness or desire to eat, but appetite ratings over a four hour period did not differ.

BACKGROUND Menetrier disease is a rare gastric disorder characterized by hypertrophic hyperplastic changes in the stomach mucosa, hypoproteinemia, and symptoms like abdominal pain and diarrhea. It predominantly affects men aged 40-60 years and involves protein loss from the stomach. There have been few reports of cases complicated with severe anemia and secondary gastric outlet obstruction.

Understanding the feeding habits of predatory fish is essential for unravelling food web structures and implementing conservation strategies in riverine ecosystems. However, conventional lethal stomach content analysis methods are not necessarily appropriate for long-term dietary studies, particularly for threatened species, as they require large sample sizes due to the inability to repeatedly analyse stomach contents from the same individuals. This study aimed to develop and validate a non-lethal stomach content analysis method using tubes for the giant mottled eel Anguilla marmorata, a representative tropical anguillid species.

Gastric schwannomas (GS) are rare tumours originating from Schwann cells that affect the gastrointestinal tract, posing a diagnostic challenge due to their nonspecific symptoms. We report the case of a 61-year-old female presented with gastric fullness and occasional episodes of abdominal pain. Computed tomography revealed a solid mass in the lesser curvature of the stomach, initially suspected to be a gastrointestinal stromal tumours.

Objective: To investigate the clinical effect on functional dyspepsia differentiated as liver-stomach disharmony treated with acupoint application of Chinese herbal medicine and wax therapy on the basis of Professor 's theory, "regulating movement".
Methods: A total of 120 patients with functional dyspepsia of liver-stomach disharmony were randomly assigned to a combined therapy group (30 cases, 1 case dropped out), an acupoint application group (30 cases, 1 case dropped out), a wax therapy group (30 cases, 1 case dropped out) and a basic therapy group (30 cases, 2 cases dropped out). In the basic therapy group, omeprazole magnesium enteric-coated tablets were administered orally, 20 mg each time, once daily.

The Lower Columbia River and Estuary is critical rearing habitat for juvenile Pacific salmon. Extending from the river mouth to Bonneville Dam 235 river kilometers upstream, the Estuary has been altered by dams, dikes, and habitat loss due to deforestation and wetland removal. Since 2008, five sites have been monitored to identify the long-term status and trends in Lower Columbia River and Estuary juvenile salmon rearing habitat.
