The present work uses a new approach to causal inference between complex systems called the Recurrence Measure of Conditional Dependence () based on the recurrence plots theory, in order to study the role of the Amazon River basin (AM) as a land-atmosphere bridge between the Niño 3.0 region in the Pacific Ocean and the Tropical North Atlantic. Two anomalous droughts in the Amazon River basin were selected, one mainly attributed to the warming of the Tropical North Atlantic (2005) and the other to a warm phase of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (2010). The results of the RMCD analysis evidence the distinctive behavior in the causal information transferred between the two oceanic regions during the two extreme droughts, suggesting that the land-atmosphere bridge operating over the AM is an active hydroclimate mechanism at interannual timescales, and that the analysis may be an ancillary resort to complement early warning systems.

The sea cucumber is an important holothuroid species inhabiting the eastern North Atlantic Ocean benthic zone at depths from about 20 - 3000 m. Geographical distribution is from the Barents Sea in the north to the Canary Islands in the south. Along with the increasing commercial interest of new sea cucumber species, research into sea cucumber biology has also advanced.

SUMMARYDengue is an acute mosquito-borne viral disease that is highly prevalent throughout the tropical world. The geographic footprint of the four dengue viruses (DENV-1 to -4) that cause this disease and their mosquito vector is expanding, extending into North America and Mediterranean Europe. Furthermore, although dengue has historically been a disease that disproportionately affects children, changing population demographics and increasing travel to and from the tropics have contributed to a growing incidence in adults.

Healthy diets are unaffordable for billions of people worldwide, with food prices rising in high-, middle- and low-income nations in recent times. Despite widespread attention to this issue, recent actions taken to inform policy prioritisation and government responses to high food inflation have not been comprehensively synthesised. Our review summarises (i) innovative efforts to monitor national food and healthy diet price, ii) new policy responses adopted by governments to address food inflation and (iii) future research directions to inform new evidence.

Giardia duodenalis is a gastrointestinal parasite and one of the most frequently reported parasitic infections associated with contaminated water. This study investigated the diversity of domestic and imported Giardia assemblages in Norway, with a focus on the genetic characterization of domestic assemblage A isolates using multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) targeting six genome markers. We analysed 340 human, and 40 animal faecal samples collected between February 2022 and January 2024 from six medical microbiology laboratories and one veterinary diagnostic center across four Norwegian health regions.
