Article Abstract

The multi-configurational self-consistent field method is employed to simulate the two-dimensional all-X-ray double-quantum-coherence (XDQC) spectroscopy, a four-wave mixing signal that provides direct signatures of double core hole (DCH) states. The valence electronic structure is probed by capturing the correlation between the single (SCH) and double core hole states. The state-averaged restricted-active-space self-consistent field (SA-RASSCF) approach is used which can treat the valence, SCH, and DCH states at the same theoretical level, and applies to all types of DCHs (located on one or two atoms, K-edge or L-edge), with both accuracy and efficiency. Orbital relaxation introduced by the core hole(s) and the static electron correlation is properly accounted for. The XDQC process can take place different intermediate DCH state channels by tuning the pulse frequencies. We simulate the XDQC signals for the three isomers of aminophenol at 8 pulse frequency configurations, covering all DCH pathways involving the N1s and O1s core hole (N1sN1s, O1sO1s and N1sO1s), which reveal different patterns of valence excitations.

The one-photon KV X-ray photoelectron spectra of Na and its hydrated clusters [Na(HO)] ( = 1-6) are dominated by the unusual 1s → 1s3s transition. KV spectroscopy also reveals a pronounced redistribution of the 1s → 1s3p transition cross sections, directly correlated with hydration number and molecular arrangement. Its intrinsic two-step nature, involving simultaneous core ionization and core excitation, enables detailed investigation of solvation-induced electronic structure changes, including dipole-forbidden excitations, core-valence charge transfer, and subtle 1s → V energy shifts.

We model Auger spectra using second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation (MP2) theory combined with complex-scaled basis functions. For this purpose, we decompose the complex MP2 energy of the core-hole state into contributions from specific decay channels and propose a corresponding equation-of-motion (EOM) method for computing the doubly ionized final states of Auger decay. These methods lead to significant savings in computational cost compared to our recently developed approaches based on coupled-cluster theory [F.

Bifunctional integration of indoor organic photovoltaics (OPVs) and photodetectors (OPDs) faces fundamental challenges because of incompatible interfacial thermodynamics: indoor OPVs require unimpeded charge extraction under low-light conditions (200-1000 lx), whereas OPDs require stringent suppression of noise current. Conventional hole transport layers (HTLs) fail to satisfy these opposing charge-dynamic requirements concurrently with commercial practicality (large-area uniformity, photostability, and cost-effective manufacturability). This study introduces benzene-phosphonic acid (BPA)-a minimalist self-assembled monolayer (SAM)-based HTL with a benzene core and phosphonic acid anchoring group-enabling cost-effective synthesis and excellent ITO interfacial properties such as energy alignment, uniform monolayer, and stability.

Lateral gene transfer is a major evolutionary process in Bacteria and Archaea. Despite its importance, lateral gene transfer quantification in nature using traditional phylogenetic methods has been hampered by the rarity of most genes within the enormous microbial pangenomes. Here, we estimated lateral gene transfer rates within the epipelagic tropical and subtropical ocean using a global, randomized collection of single amplified genomes and a non-phylogenetic computational approach.

Late-life depression (LLD) arises from the confluence of neurochemical dysfunction, oxidative stress, and neural network disintegration, presenting a formidable therapeutic challenge. Here, we demonstrated that combined vitamin D (Vit D) and L-theanine (L-thea) administration exerts multimodal neurorestorative effects in an aged murine model of unpredictable chronic mild stress (UCMS), addressing the core triad of LLD pathology: dopaminergic decline, redox imbalance, and thalamocortical dyssynchrony. Using a comprehensive battery of behavioral assays (Open Field Test, Elevated Plus Maze, Hole Board Test, Tail Suspension Test, Forced Swim Test, Sucrose Preference Test), we observed profound anxiogenic and anhedonic phenotypes in the UCMS-exposed mice, accompanied by elevated immobility and suppressed exploratory drive.
