Background: Current available treatments for Helicobacter pylori eradication are chosen according to local clarithromycin and metronidazole resistance prevalence. The aim of this study was to estimate, by means of molecular methods, both clarithromycin and metronidazole resistance in gastric mucosa from patients infected with H.pylori.
Methods: A total of 191 DNA samples were analyzed. DNA was purified from gastric mucosa obtained from patients who underwent an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy at an university hospital from Santiago, Chile, between 2011 and 2014. H.pylori was detected by real-time PCR. A 5'exonuclease assay was developed to detect A2142G and A2143G mutations among H.pylori-positive samples. rdxA gene was sequenced in samples harboring A2142G and A2143G mutations in order to detect mutations that potentially confer dual clarithromycin and metronidazole resistance.
Results: Ninety-three (93) out of 191 DNA samples obtained from gastric mucosa were H.pylori-positive (48.7%). Clarithromycin-resistance was detected in 29 samples (31.2% [95%CI 22.0-41.6%]). The sequencing of rdxA gene revealed that two samples harbored truncating mutations in rdxA, one sample had an in-frame deletion, and 11 had amino acid changes that likely cause metronidazole resistance.
Conclusions: We estimated a prevalence of clarithomycin-resistance of 31.8% in Santiago, Chile. Three of them harbor inactivating mutations in rdxA and 11 had missense mutations likely conferring metronidazole resistance. Our results require further confirmation. Nevertheless, they are significant as an initial approximation in re-evaluating the guidelines for H.pylori eradication currently used in Chile.

Background: Barrett's mucosa in the remnant esophagus (BMRE) is often identified after gastric pull-up reconstruction after esophagectomy. This study aimed to determine the clinical characteristics of BMRE and the factors that affect the development of BMRE.
Methods: The characteristics of BMRE and factors affecting its occurrence were studied in patients with subtotal esophagectomy and gastric pull-up reconstruction who survived at least 3 years after esophageal cancer surgery and who were evaluated by endoscopy.

Introduction And Aim: Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) are rare neoplasms originating in neuroendocrine cells from the gastric mucosa and submucosa, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and pancreas. Our aim was to describe their histopathologic, endoscopic, and clinical characteristics and the experience with these tumors at a tertiary care hospital center in the Colombian Southwest.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective, analytic, observational, and descriptive study included 93 patients diagnosed with GEP-NETs, within the time frame of 2018 and 2022.

Gastric cancer (GC) is a malignant tumor originating from the epithelial cells of the gastric mucosa. The 5-methylcytosine (mC) modification refers to the addition of a methyl group to the fifth carbon atom of cytosine in RNA molecules. This study aimed to investigate the role of NOL1/NOP2/SUN domain (NSUN)6 in GC and its underlying molecular mechanisms.

Histologic gastric eosinophilia (HGE), characterized by dense eosinophil infiltration in gastric mucosa, is an understudied disease with unclear etiology. Unlike its counterpart, eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), which has defined diagnostic eosinophil thresholds and characteristic endoscopic findings, proposed eosinophil thresholds for the diagnosis of HGE vary and endoscopic findings are not well characterized. This study aimed to assess the clinical, histological, and endoscopic features of HGE in adults and children.

Purpose: Precancerous lesions of gastric cancer (PLGC) represent a crucial juncture in the transformation from gastritis to gastric cancer. Qijie Xiaopi Decoction (QJXPD), a Chinese herbal medicine formulation that has been applied in clinical practice to manage PLGC, which is capable of effectively relieving the symptoms experienced by patients such conditions. However, its mechanism of action remains unclear.
