Article Abstract

Recent studies show that perovskites (ABX-type) comprising mixed A or B cation and/or mixed halide (X) are more stable and efficient materials for photovoltaic applications than their respective pure forms. Herein we report how doping of a small quantity of formamidinium and/or chloride ion influences the single and multiexciton dynamics of CsPbI nanocrystals (NCs). With the help of ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopic measurements, we show that chloride doping can enhance the biexciton lifetime of the system significantly by slowing down the Auger recombination (AR) process. The measured biexciton AR time scale (∼195-205 ps) in some of these NCs is the longest among those reported to date for any similar size perovskites. We further demonstrate that suppression of the AR rate and consequent lengthening of biexciton lifetime allow harvest of these species for their utilization through rapid (18-45 ps) electron transfer to fullerene. The insights obtained from this study are expected to help design more efficient doped perovskites for energy conversion purposes.

Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals are considered promising materials for high-flux optical applications, including lasing, light-emitting diodes, biological imaging, and quantum optics. In high-flux applications, multiexcitons can significantly contribute to emission, influencing its brightness, spectral purity, and kinetics. As a result, understanding and controlling multiexciton emission in colloidal nanocrystal materials is of the utmost importance.

This study investigates the photoluminescence (PL) dynamics of CdSe quantum dots (QDs) on indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates under various excitation intensities to understand the impact of QD charging on PL. The analysis reveals that under low pump fluence, approximately 75% of the QDs in the assembly are negatively charged due to direct contact with the ITO substrate, resulting in a shortened average PL lifetime and weakened PL intensity. Under high pump fluence conditions, the charging percentage is further increased by the photo charging effect, leading to the undesirable depletion of the biexciton state through the accelerated non-radiative Auger process.

Photon indistinguishability, entanglement, and antibunching are key ingredients in quantum optics and photonics. Decay cascades in quantum emitters offer a simple method to create entangled-photon-pairs with negligible multipair generation probability. However, the degree of indistinguishability of the photons emitted in a cascade is intrinsically limited by the lifetime ratio of the involved transitions.

In the realm of many-body physics, the study of low-dimensional excitonic complexes has emerged as a compelling area of research, offering tunable modifications and highlighting quasiparticle interactions as key drivers for advancing valleytronics. Building upon extensive studies of simpler few-body systems such as excitons and trions, here we present a comprehensive exploration of the valley dynamics in more complex five-body charged biexciton (XX) in monolayer WS using helicity-resolved ultrafast spectroscopy. We observe a near-unity degree of valley polarization at a moderate temperature of ∼150 K, which persists substantially longer than the population lifetime.

Metal chalcogenide quantum dots (QDs) are attractive because of their application in photovoltaics and light emitting devices (LEDs). Non-radiative Auger recombination is a major hindrance in this regard. Doping with metal ions is an effective modality to overcome this issue.
