For decades, intracerebroventricular (ICV), or intraventricular, devices have been used in the treatment of a broad range of pediatric and adult central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Due to the limited permeability of the blood brain barrier, diseases with CNS involvement may require direct administration of drugs into the brain to achieve full therapeutic effect. A recent comprehensive literature review on the clinical use and complications of ICV drug delivery revealed that device-associated complication rates are variable, and may be as high as 33% for non-infectious complications and 27% for infectious complications. The variability in reported safety outcomes may be driven by a lack of consensus on best practices of device use. Numerous studies have demonstrated that employing strict aseptic techniques and following stringent protocols can dramatically reduce complications. Key practices to be considered in facilitating the safe, long-term use of these devices are presented.

Background: Acupuncture is a widely recognized complementary therapy with proven therapeutic benefits; however, concerns regarding patient safety persist due to adverse events ranging from minor complications to severe outcomes like pneumothorax and nerve injury.
Objective: This study aims to identify common adverse events in acupuncture, propose innovative risk mitigation strategies, establish standardized best practices, enhance practitioner training, and examine global disparities in safety protocols.

Objectives: This study evaluates the management of paediatric melanoma at a tertiary centre, comparing clinical practices with international guidelines from the European Cooperative Study Group for Pediatric Rare Tumors (EXPeRT) and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) to highlight real-world practices and make recommendations for future research priorities. The differences between conventional and Spitzoid melanomas were also explored in a subgroup analysis.

De-implementation of established practices is a common challenge in infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship and a necessary part of the life cycle of healthcare quality improvement programs. Promoting de-implementation of ineffective antimicrobial use and increasingly of low-value diagnostic testing are cornerstones of stewardship practice.
