Objectives: The 9th edition of the Tumor, Node, Metastasis (TNM-9) lung cancer classification is set to replace the 8th edition (TNM-8) starting in 2025. Key updates include the splitting of the mediastinal nodal category N2 into single- and multiple-station involvement, as well as the classification of multiple extrathoracic metastatic lesions as involving a single organ system (M1c1) or multiple organ systems (M1c2). This study aimed to assess how the TNM-9 revisions affect the final staging of lung cancer patients and how these changes correlate with overall survival (OS).

Animal diaphragm-lung systems are soft organs that generate a controllable vacuum. Elephants, as rare land animals, can manipulate all three states of matter using their lung-generated vacuum. In soft robotics, however, current vacuum generation relies on rigid components, and no single soft device effectively handles all states of matter.

Background: Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) occurs in 20% to 80% of patients following cardiac surgical interventions. The incidence of delirium is from 20% to 50%. Impaired cerebral autoregulation (CA) during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) contributes to these issues.

Abnormal expression of HLA class Ib, MICA and MICB molecules is associated with the evolution of pathological conditions and clinical settings. Here, we use RNA-sequencing data from two publicly-available projects, from different human organs and tissues and at single-cell level, to present their transcriptional expression throughout the human body, in comparison to that of HLA class Ia, HLA class II, their costimulatory molecules, and the main HLA transcription factors. Our analyses for 21 target genes reveal that median gene expression differs by orders of magnitude and that the classical/non-classical HLA distinction is not absolute for overall expression.

Background: The prognosis of small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) remains poor, particularly in patients with extensive-stage SCLC. The IMpower133 and CASPIAN trials revealed the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in extensive-stage SCLC patients with good performance status (PS). The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of ICIs in patients with poor PS.
