Article Abstract
Grant writing starts with crafting an effective specific aims page. This page should be a succinct combination of sales pitch and science. The specific aims page demonstrates a problem and a gap in current knowledge and suggests a solution. It proposes aims that work toward a defended solution and reveal the impact of the proposal on the problem, the field, and future research. The language must be efficient and persuasive; the presentation must drive a reviewer to support the proposal. Here we present a recipe for an effective specific aims page.

Radical esophagectomy remains the cornerstone of curative treatment for esophageal cancer, but is frequently complicated by postoperative events, most notably anastomotic leakage. Anastomotic leakage, occurring in up to 30% of cases, is multifactorial in origin and significantly increases morbidity and mortality. This review aims to summarize current management strategies, highlight emerging therapies, and identify persistent clinical challenges related to this complication.

Given the evidence of cognitive deficits in individuals with vestibular dysfunction, reduced cognitive resources may impact the effort required to process auditory information, particularly in adverse listening conditions. Although existing literature suggests impaired performance on cognitive tasks in vestibular disorders in general, research in this area specific to patients with vestibular migraine is limited. Background: Making informed decisions about clinical trial participation can be overwhelming for patients due to the complexity of trial information, potential risks and benefits, and the emotional burden of a recent diagnosis. Patient decision aids (PDAs) simplify this process by providing clear information on treatment options, empowering patients to actively participate in shared decision-making with their doctors. While PDAs have shown promise in various health care contexts, their use in clinical trials, particularly in the form of trial-specific patient decision aids (tPDAs), remains underused.
