Article Abstract

Tangeretin, 4',5,6,7,8-pentamethoxyflavone, is one of the major polymethoxyflavones (PMFs) existing in citrus fruits, particularly in the peels of sweet oranges and mandarins. Tangeretin has been reported to possess several beneficial bioactivities including anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative and neuroprotective effects. To achieve a thorough understanding of the biological actions of tangeretin in vivo, our current study is designed to investigate the pharmacokinetics, bioavailability, distribution and excretion of tangeretin in rats. After oral administration of 50 mg/kg bw tangeretin to rats, the C, T and t were 0.87 ± 0.33 μg/mL, 340.00 ± 48.99 min and 342.43 ± 71.27 min, respectively. Based on the area under the curves (AUC) of oral and intravenous administration of tangeretin, calculated absolute oral bioavailability was 27.11%. During tissue distribution, maximum concentrations of tangeretin in the vital organs occurred at 4 or 8 h after oral administration. The highest accumulation of tangeretin was found in the kidney, lung and liver, followed by spleen and heart. In the gastrointestinal tract, maximum concentrations of tangeretin in the stomach and small intestine were found at 4 h, while in the cecum, colon and rectum, tangeretin reached the maximum concentrations at 12 h. Tangeretin excreted in the urine and feces was recovered within 48 h after oral administration, concentrations were only 0.0026% and 7.54%, respectively. These results suggest that tangeretin was mainly eliminated as metabolites. In conclusion, our study provides useful information regarding absorption, distribution, as well as excretion of tangeretin, which will provide a good base for studying the mechanism of its biological effects.

Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor whose incidence is increasing worldwide. While thyroid cancer is treatable and curable, a small number of cases can become metastatic when cancer cells originating in the thyroid gland spread to other parts of the body through the bloodstream or lymphatic system. The most common treatments for thyroid cancer are resection and radioactive iodine therapy.

Ethnopharmacological Relevancy: Aurantii Fructus (AF) is known for its ability to regulate qi and alleviate stagnation. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), qi stagnation is considered a key factor in the development of major depressive disorder (MDD). Scientific research needs to further reveal the exact neural mechanisms of AF's antidepressant effects.

Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Rutaceae, CRP) is commonly utilized as a qi-regulating drug in numerous Chinese medicine formulations. However, the correlation between active components of CRP and lipid-lowering efficacy remained to be further studied. This research involved the extraction and characterization of six compounds from CRP using 70 % ethanol, RP-C18, thin layer chromatography (TLC), Sephadex LH-20, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR).

Introduction: Osteosarcoma (OS) is an invasive and lethal malignancy showing a low 5 year survival rate, underscoring the need for identifying new therapeutic targets and their inhibitors to enhance prevention and treatment strategies.

Methods: In this study, in vitro experiments including CCK-8 assay, anchorage-independent growth assays, and plate cloning assays were used to detect the anti-proliferation ability of natural compound tangeretin towards OS cells. An integrated approach was performed including WGCNA and network pharmacology to identify the key genes of tangeretin for the treatment of OS.

The ErChen Pill (ECP), a classical traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), is clinically effective in treating dampness-phlegm-related disorders, including cough, nausea, vomiting, and excessive phlegm production. However, the complexity of the chemical composition of traditional Chinese medicine poses challenges to controlling the quality of ECP. This study aimed to predict and validate the quality markers (Q-markers) of ECP.
