Article Abstract

During the 2016-17 winter season in Japan, human norovirus GII.P16-GII.2 strains (2016 strains) caused large outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis. Phylogenetic analyses suggested that the 2016 strains derived from the GII.2 strains detected during 2010-12. Immunochromatography between 2016 strains and the pre-2016 GII.2 strains showed similar reactivity.

Emergency department (ED) visits following elective surgeries place significant strain on already overburdened healthcare systems. In Nova Scotia, carpal tunnel release (CTR) and trigger finger release (TFR) are the most common elective hand surgeries performed. This study sought to determine the rates, reasons, and risk factors associated with ED visits following elective outpatient hand surgery.

Residues 27T and 297A in VP2 contribute to the enhanced replication and pathogenicity of raccoon dog parvovirus.

J Virol

September 2025

Key Laboratory of Special Animal Epidemic Disease, Ministry of Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Institute of Special Animal and Plant Sciences, Changchun, China.

Raccoon dog parvovirus (RDPV) is a highly contagious pathogen causing severe hemorrhagic enteritis that is fatal in young raccoon dogs. Since 2016, epidemiological investigations have documented recurrent outbreaks of RDPV, exhibiting heightened virulence; however, the molecular mechanisms driving this increased pathogenicity remain poorly understood. In this study, an alignment of 67 complete RDPV sequences identified two high-frequency amino acid mutations at positions 27 and 297 in the VP2 capsid protein that distinguish RDPV strains from before and after the 2016 outbreak.

Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine, Iowa State University, IA, USA. Electronic address:

Porcine circovirus type 3 (PCV3) was identified in 2016 and has since been associated with reproductive failure, multisystemic inflammation, and subclinical infection in swine. Numerous countries have retrospectively detected the presence of PCV3 before its first clinical description in 2016. The reported detection rate of PCV3 has varied from 6.

Lumpy Skin Disease virus (LSDV) is a Capripoxvirus that causes Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), a highly contagious disease of cattle transmitted primarily by blood-feeding arthropods, but also through direct contact and fomites. On 20 June 2025, an outbreak was reported in a beef cattle farm in Orani (Nuoro, Sardinia, Italy), where 21 of 131 animals showed typical clinical signs. Fourteen samples tested positive for LSDV by real-time PCR, and selected specimens underwent whole genome sequencing, generating three high-quality consensus sequences.
