Article Abstract

A BNCT online neutron monitoring system was tested in a TRIGA reactor, using a silicon PIN-diode with a conversion foil. The setup was tested with different reactor powers at the hot and cold ends of the irradiation channel, using activation foils to compare with measured fluxes. The results demonstrate good reproducibility and show a linear correlation between signal of the PIN-diode and neutron flux at all positions, demonstrating this approach to be suitable for online monitoring of the neutron flux.

Unlabelled: Oxypalmatine (OPT), a small molecule alkaloid isolated from Phellodendron amurense, is a bioactive compound with promising anticancer potential. We evaluated the efficacy of OPT using four lung adenocarcinoma cell lines and four patient-derived organoid tissues. Additionally, the anticancer effects of OPT were further validated through in vivo experiments.

Neutron contamination near medical linear accelerators (LINACs) has raised increasing concerns regarding secondary risks for patients undergoing photon-based radiotherapy (RT) at energies above 6 MV.In this work the aim was to evaluate in real-time the secondary neutron fluence to compare the neutron production between two widely used LINACs (Varian TrueBeam and Elekta Synergy) operating at 15 MV. Thermal neutron contributions were measured in the treatment rooms using a 10 × 10 cmfield size, flattening filter, and doses ranging from 100 to 1000 monitor units (MU) and dose rates from 100 to 600 MU min.

Dosimetry in BNCT poses significant challenges due to the indirect effect of neutrons interacting with elements within the body and uncertainties associated with the uptake of boron compounds used in clinical practice. Current treatment planning relies on unconventional estimates of boron tumor uptake derived from prior PET scans and thus, an online boron-uptake monitor would be highly convenient. This work presents the first pilot experiments carried out at ILL-Grenoble with the high-efficiency Compton camera i-TED, hereby aiming at demonstrating its applicability for BNCT dosimetry by introducing real-time measurement of the boron concentration and imaging capabilities of spatial dose distribution.

Tuning particle accelerators is a challenging and time-consuming task that can be automated and carried out efficiently using suitable optimization algorithms, such as model-based Bayesian optimization techniques. One of the major advantages of Bayesian algorithms is the ability to incorporate prior information about beam physics and historical behavior into the model used to make control decisions. In this work, we examine incorporating prior accelerator physics information into Bayesian optimization algorithms by utilizing fast executing, neural network models trained on simulated or historical datasets as prior mean functions in Gaussian process models.

Small-angle X-ray and neutron scattering (SAXS and SANS) are versatile techniques for studying the structure of various materials and particles, enabling investigations of structures from a few to hundreds of nanometres. However, interpreting SAXS or SANS data can be challenging, hence the need for effective training. Here, we present the website SAStutorials.
