. This study was undertaken to determine relative contributions of phosphorylation and oxidation to the increased activity of calcium/calmodulin-stimulated protein kinase II (CaMKII) in juveniles with cardiac myocyte dysfunction due to increased pressure overload. . Juvenile rats underwent abdominal aortic constriction to induce heart failure. Four weeks after surgery, rats were then randomly divided into two groups: one group given valsartan (HF + Val) and the other group given placebo (HF + PBO). Simultaneously, the sham-operated rats were randomly given valsartan (Sham + Val) or placebo (Sham + PBO). After 4 weeks of treatment, Western blot analysis was employed to quantify CaMKII and relative calcium handling proteins (RyR2 and PLN) in all groups. . The deteriorated cardiac function was reversed by valsartan treatment. In ventricular muscle cells of group HF + PBO, Thr287 phosphorylation of CaMKII and S2808 phosphorylation of RyR2 and PLN were increased and S16 phosphorylation of PLN was decreased compared to the other groups, while Met281 oxidation was not significantly elevated. In addition, these changes in the expression of calcium handling proteins were ameliorated by valsartan administration. . The phosphorylation of Thr286 is associated with the early activation of CaMKII rather than the oxidation of Met281.

Pelvic visceromotor functions such as micturition are regulated by coordinated autonomic and somatic motor pathways from the central nervous system. The parasympathetic system induces detrusor muscle contraction while the somatic system facilitates relaxation of the external urethral sphincter, ensuring synchronized and efficient bladder emptying during the voiding process. This study explores the relationship between Barrington's nucleus corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH)-ergic projections and the formation of perineural nets (PNNs) among spinal motoneurons, particularly parasympathetic preganglionic neurons in the intermediolateral nucleus (IML) and Onuf's nucleus during the maturation of the neural circuitry controlling pelvic visceromotor functions.

Introduction: The dorsal horn (DH) of the spinal cord is physiologically immature at birth. Spinal excitability increases and wide dynamic range (WDR) neurons in lamina V have lowered activation thresholds and larger receptive field sizes.
Objective: The DH is composed of 5 laminae containing diverse interneuronal populations yet our understanding of the physiology of the DH is based on behavioural studies or extrapolation of single cell WDR recordings to the whole network.

Social play is displayed by juveniles of many mammalian species and is vital to the development of social skills as shown in humans and rats. Here, we determined how two external conditions, social isolation length and social stimulus familiarity, modulate social play levels (by the experimental animals) and social play defense tactics (by the stimulus animals) in juveniles of three common laboratory rat strains: Long-Evans, Sprague-Dawley, and Wistar. Experimental rats were socially isolated for either 2h or 48h and were then exposed in their home cage to a familiar (cage mate) or novel sex-, age-, and strain-matched stimulus rat.
