The aim of this study was to develop a biodegradable three-dimensional-printed polylactide (PLA) cage for promoting bony fixation and an antibiotics-embedded poly(d,l)-lactide-co-glycolide (PLGA) nanofibrous membrane for infectious prophylaxis during treating the comminuted metaphyseal fracture in a rabbit femoral model. The in vitro studies included measuring the mechanical properties of the 3D printed cage and determining release activities of vancomycin and ceftazidime from the nanofibers. The in vivo study included comparisons of rabbits of the femoral metaphyseal comminuted fracture treated with or without the combined biodegradable polymers. The results showed that vancomycin and ceftazidime were sustainably detected above the effective levels in the local tissue fluid around the fracture site for 3 weeks. The animal studies showed that rabbits with the 3D cage implantation possessed better cortical integrity, leg length ratio, and maximal bending strengths. The study results indicate that these combined polymers may promote fracture fixation during treating the rabbit femoral metaphyseal comminuted fracture.

Osteochondromas are the most common benign bone tumors and are frequently discovered incidentally in the metaphyseal regions of long bones during growth. While typically asymptomatic, they may occasionally lead to complications such as neurovascular impingement, mechanical irritation, or pathological fractures. Salter-Harris type II fractures represent the most frequent physeal injuries in pediatric populations, particularly in rapidly growing regions like the distal femur.

Background: Patients with secondary hip osteoarthritis due to developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) often have abnormal femoral morphology, making stem design critical for long-term outcomes. The FMS-anatomic stem previously demonstrated favourable mid-term results. Its successor, the Anatomic Fit stem, was developed with a reduced hydroxyapatite-coated area to enhance proximal load transfer and a narrower lateral flare to facilitate insertion.

Background And Purpose: The new Tri-Lock bone -preserving stem with a collarless proximal-coated tapered-wedge design was compared with a classic well-proven collarless proximal-coated long and round-tapered design. Our primary aim was to compare femoral stem fixation (subsidence) of the Tri-Lock stem with the classic Summit stem, and secondarily to compare the change in periprosthetic bone mineral density (BMD) and PROMS between stem groups.
Methods: In a patient-blinded randomized controlled trial, 52 patients at mean age 60 (SD 6) received cementless Tri-Lock (n = 26) or Summit (n = 26) femoral stems with a cementless Pinnacle cup, a cross-linked polyethylene liner, and a CoCr head.

These extra-incisional pins are placed away from the primary incision and may be associated with soft tissue complications and peri-prosthetic fractures. Bone defects in the limbs may result from trauma, debridement during osteitis or pseudarthrosis resection or tumors [1]. Treating bone defects of the femur and tibia poses a substantial challenge in trauma surgery and orthopedics. Interdisciplinary orthoplastic treatment combined with soft tissue reconstruction is often necessary to preserve the extremity and its function.
