The shiitake mushroom () is one of the most popular edible mushrooms in the world and has attracted attention for its value in medicinal and pharmacological uses. With recent advanced research and techniques, the agricultural cultivation of the shiitake mushroom has been greatly increased, especially in East Asia. Additionally, demand for the development of new cultivars with good agricultural traits has been greatly enhanced, but the development processes are complicated and more challenging than for other edible mushrooms. In this study, we developed 44 novel polymorphic simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers for the determination of shiitake mushroom cultivars based on a whole genome sequencing database of . These markers were found to be polymorphic and reliable when screened in 23 shiitake mushroom cultivars. For the 44 SSR markers developed in this study, the major allele frequency ranged from 0.13 to 0.94; the number of genotypes and number of alleles were each 2-11; the observed and expected heterozygosity were 0.00-1.00 and 0.10-0.90, respectively; and the polymorphic information content value ranged from 0.10 to 0.89. These new markers can be used for molecular breeding, the determination of cultivars, and other applications.

Lentinula edodes (shiitake mushroom) is a widely cultivated edible and medicinal fungus, valued for its bioactive compounds. While East Asian strains have been well studied, Indian populations remain under-characterized. This study explores the genetic and functional diversity of five Indian-origin L.

To fulfill the global demand for sustainable livestock production and the implementation of circular economy models, the search for alternative feed sources to lower production cost has increased significantly. The use of agro-industrial waste has proven to be a low-cost strategy for animal feed. The present study evaluates the use of spent mushroom substrate (SMS) from Pleurotus ostreatus (strain Po-IAP) and Lentinula edodes (strain L5) as an ingredient for silage.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Lentinula edodes (shiitake) has long been used in East Asian medicine to reduce inflammation, boost vitality, and support immune function. Its therapeutic effects arise from the synergistic activity of multiple bioactive compounds, consistent with the ethnopharmacological preference for whole-extract remedies.
Aim Of The Study: This study evaluated and compared the anti-inflammatory potential of L.

The superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzymes are a group of key enzymes involved in oxidative stress defense and play a significant role in organismal growth and development. The SOD gene family has been identified in many plants, animals, and some fungi but not in the economically important edible mushroom Lentinula edodes. In this study, members of the SOD gene family of L.

Edible filamentous fungi L. edodes (shiitake mushrooms) were cultivated in submerged fermentation in stirred tank bioreactors (STR) both in batch and semicontinuous cultivation in a corn steep liquor (CSL) medium. The adjustment of a combination of constant impeller agitation speed, a short duration of a high-speed agitation (burst), and the frequency of bursts improved biomass (cell dry weight (CDW) titre from 1.
