Background: Although clinical assessment remains the gold standard for monitoring the circulation of free flaps, several adjunct techniques promote timely salvage by detecting circulation compromise early. The objective of this systematic review was to evaluate the efficacy of an implantable Doppler probe for postoperatively monitoring free flaps.
Materials And Methods: English-language articles evaluating the efficacy of implantable Doppler probes compared with clinical assessment for postoperatively monitoring free flaps were analyzed. The outcome measures were total flap failure rates, salvage rates, sensitivity, false-positive rates, and positive likelihood ratios.
Results: Of the 504 citations identified, 6 comparative studies were included for meta-analysis. An implantable Doppler probe significantly lowered the flap failure rate (risk ratio: 0.40; 95% confidence interval: 0.21-0.75) and raised the successful salvage rate (risk ratio: 1.73; 95% confidence interval: 1.16-2.59). Pooled sensitivity was higher (1.00 vs 0.98), the positive likelihood ratio was lower (72.16 vs 220.48), and the false-positive rate was higher (0.01 vs 0) in the implantable Doppler probe group than in the clinical assessment group.
Conclusion: An implantable Doppler probe is significantly more efficacious than clinical assessment for postoperatively monitoring free flaps.

Objective: To evaluate the early postoperative morbidity, mortality, and prosthetic conduit function of patients who underwent aortic root replacement using a prefabricated bioprosthetic aortic valved conduit.
Methods: Single-center retrospective review of 124 consecutive adult patients who underwent aortic root replacement with a certified prefabricated bioprosthetic aortic valved conduit from 2021 to December 2023.
Results: Indications for operation were aortic aneurysms (n = 92), endocarditis (n = 12), deterioration of prior valve prosthesis (n = 13), and aortic dissection (n = 6).

Introduction: The use of controlled-expansion transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (CX-TIPS) effectively controls portal hypertension (PH)-related complications while reducing risks related to fully expanded stents. We evaluated the effectiveness of CX-TIPS in a large Viennese patient cohort.
Method: We assessed the number of patients evaluated for CX-TIPS placement by interdisciplinary discussion at the Medical University of Vienna and included all patients from the prospective AUTIPS registry undergoing CX-TIPS placement between June 2018 - December 2024.

Background: Covered stent implantation has become a common approach for management of iliofemoral vascular complications in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), but the long-term outcomes associated with this approach are unknown. The aims of the study were 1) to evaluate the incidence and indication for covered stent placement in patients undergoing TAVR, 2) to assess long-term clinical outcomes after covered stent placement, and 3) to describe the performance of covered stents over long-term follow-up as assessed by Doppler ultrasonography.
Methods: Retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing iliofemoral covered stent implantation at the time of TAVR in a single high-volume UK center.

Objectives: After transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), various hemodynamic alterations occur due to increased cardiac output, which may influence retinal blood flow. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of TAVI on retinal artery dynamics by measuring Doppler parameters before and after the procedure.
Methods: In this prospective, single-centre study, patients scheduled for TAVI were evaluated using retinal Doppler within one week before TAVI, on the first postoperative day, and at one month post-procedure.
