Article Abstract

Internal bacterial concentration of Mg, the most abundant divalent cation in living cells, is estimated to be in the single millimolar range. However, many bacteria will thrive in media with only micromolars of Mg, by using a range of intensely studied and highly efficient import mechanisms, as well as in media with very high magnesium concentration, presumably mediated by currently unknown export mechanisms. has a particularly high Mg tolerance for a pathogen, growing unimpaired in up to 770 mM Mg, and we here identify SA0657, a key factor in this tolerance. The predicted domain structure of SA0657 is shared with a large number of proteins in bacteria, archaea and even eukarya, for example CorB from and the human CNNM protein family. One of the shared domains, a CBS pair potentially involved in Mg sensing, contains the conserved Glycine326 which we establish to be a key residue for SA0657 function. In light of our findings, we propose the name MpfA, Magnesium Protection Factor A, for SA0657.

Cytochrome P450 enzymes (P450s), particularly those of microbial origin, are highly versatile biocatalysts capable of catalyzing a broad range of regio- and stere-oselective reactions. P450s derived from extremophiles are of particular interest due to their potential tolerance to high temperature, salinity, and acidity. This study aimed to identify and classify novel microbial P450 enzymes from extreme environments across Türkiye, including hydrothermal springs, hypersaline lakes, and an acid-mine drainage site.

Purpose Of Review: Sulbactam-durlobactam (SUL-DUR) is a novel β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor combination recently approved for carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) infections. This review summarizes current knowledge on the optimal use of SUL-DUR, whether administered alone or in combination with carbapenems, particularly imipenem.

Recent Findings: Data from registrational trial demonstrate that SUL-DUR is an effective and well tolerated treatment option for CRAB severe infections.

It is helpful for diagnostic purposes to improve our current knowledge of gut development and serum biochemistry in young piglets. This study investigated serum biochemistry, and gut site-specific patterns of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) and expression of genes related to barrier function, innate immune response, antioxidative status and sensing of fatty and bile acids in suckling and newly weaned piglets. The experiment consisted of two replicate batches with 10 litters each.
