is an environmental fungal pathogen that causes meningoencephalitis in humans, requiring thermal adaptation to human body temperature. We employed several orthogonal complementary approaches to elucidate molecular mechanisms of calcineurin signaling, which is essential for thermotolerance of many fungal species, and in doing so, delineated a thermoregulatory network. First, genetic suppressors for loss of calcineurin activity identified a kinase, Yak1, as the primary suppressor of calcineurin.

Introduction: Cryptococcal meningoencephalitis involving the basal ganglia is exceedingly rare and poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to its tumor-mimicking presentation. This case underscores the necessity of a multidisciplinary approach integrating surgical intervention and targeted antifungal therapy.
Case Presentation: A 47-years-old immunocompetent female presented with progressive headache and left-sided hemiparesis.

Background: Sepsis frequently occurs in hospitalised patients with cirrhosis. Among this cohort, meningoencephalitis is likely underdiagnosed, and may be a common pathogen.
Objectives: Our study aims to (1) understand the epidemiology and mortality of meningoencephalitis in patients with cirrhosis, (2) identify those at risk for cryptococcal meningitis, and (3) assess the safety of lumbar puncture (LP).

Cryptococcosis is a fungal infection caused by and that primarily affects the brain and lungs. While typically infects immunodeficient hosts, it can also infect immunocompetent hosts, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. Recently, there has been a rise in reported cases globally.

is the leading cause of fungal meningitis in humans and a major source of mortality in people living with HIV. Infection starts in the lungs and results in meningoencephalitis after dissemination via the bloodstream. Alveolar macrophages are the first immune cells to encounter the infection and are usually capable of clearing it.
