Objectives: The 2-bag intravenous (IV) fluid system for diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) has been associated with shorter duration of insulin and faster resolution of acidosis. Our aims were to increase the use of 2-bag IV fluids among children with medium- or high-risk DKA treated at 2 tertiary care pediatric hospitals and to increase the proportion of children who receive timely administration of fluid and insulin treatments.
Methods: We conducted a quality improvement initiative using data from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2021, among patients 21 years or younger with medium- or high-risk DKA.

Objective: To evaluate the safety, adhesion rates, and perioperative outcomes of monopolar and bipolar electrosurgical hysteroscopic metroplasty in women with a septate uterus.
Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective analysis of 155 consecutive patients who underwent same-session laparoscopy and hysteroscopic septum resection between January 2021 and January 2025. Procedures were performed under surgeon discretion using either a monopolar loop with glycine distension or a bipolar loop with isotonic Ringer's lactate.

Background: Severe burn trauma can significantly impair renal function with increased morbidity and mortality. To preserve renal function after burn trauma, fluid resuscitation should be adequate avoiding hypo- as well as hypervolemia. In 2018, the Dutch Burn Society revised its resuscitation guideline from 4 mL/kg/TBSA hypertonic solution to 3 mL/kg/TBSA isotonic solution.

Intravenous fluid administration is an important part of the management of the surgical patient. Fluid can be used to compensate for the normal turnover of fluid and electrolytes (maintenance), to replace losses, to expand the extracellular fluid space to maintain adequate circulation (resuscitation), and to provide nutrition. Too little fluid and too much fluid both increase the number of postoperative complications.
