Article Abstract

One Co(ii) SCO coordination polymer [Co(enbzpy)(μ1,5-dca)]n(PF6)n (·PF6) has been isolated and characterised structurally and magnetostructurally. The properties of ·PF6 are compared with the reported perchlorate analogue [Co(enbzpy)(μ1,5-dca)]n(ClO4)n (·ClO4). The gradual spin transition in ·PF6 in contrast to an abrupt spin transition with a hysteresis loop in ·ClO4 has been analysed in terms of structural factors.

The coupling of lasers plays an important role in a variety of research activities, from generating high-power lasers to investigating out-of-equilibrium coupled systems. This Letter presents our investigations of Hermitian coupling in arrays of lasers, where it is possible to control both the amplitude and phase of the coupling and generate artificial gauge fields. The Hermitian coupling is demonstrated in three laser array geometries: a square array of 100 lasers with controlled laser coupling for obtaining continuous control over the phase-locked state, a triangular array of 130 lasers with controlled chirality of the lasers, and a ring array of eight lasers with a controlled topological charge.

The doped topological insulator Cu_{x}Bi_{2}Se_{3} has attracted considerable attention as a new platform for studying novel properties of spin-triplet and topological superconductivity. In this work, we performed synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements on Cu_{x}Bi_{2}Se_{3} (0.24≤x≤0.

We report the structural, electrical, and magnetic properties of the organic conductor κ-(BEST)Cu(CN) (BEST: bis(ethylenediseleno)-tetrathiafulvalene; abbreviated as κ-BEST-CN), which is isostructural with the quantum spin liquid candidate κ-(ET)Cu(CN) (ET: bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene; abbreviated as κ-ET-CN). Resistivity measurements demonstrate that κ-BEST-CN exhibits semiconducting behavior, governed by the same conducting mechanism as κ-ET-CN. Under a pressure of ∼0.

The 247-keV state in ^{54}Sc, populated in the β decay of ^{54}Ca, is reported here as a nanosecond isomer with a half-life of 26.0(22) ns. The state is interpreted as the 1^{+} member of the πf_{7/2}⊗νf_{5/2} spin-coupled multiplet, which decays to the 3^{+},πf_{7/2}⊗νp_{1/2} ground state.

Quasi-one-dimensional magnets can host an ordered longitudinal spin-density wave state (LSDW) in magnetic field at low temperature, when longitudinal correlations are strengthened by Ising anisotropies. In the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet YbAlO_{3} this happens via Ising-like interchain interactions. Here, we report the first experimental observation of magnetization plateaux at 1/5 and 1/3 of the saturation value via thermal transport and magnetostriction measurements in YbAlO_{3}.
