The melting of argon clusters ArN is investigated by applying a parallel-tempering Monte Carlo algorithm for all cluster sizes in the range from 55 to 309 atoms. Extrapolation to the bulk gives a melting temperature of 85.9 K in good agreement with the previous value of 88.9 K using only Mackay icosahedral clusters for the extrapolation [E. Pahl, F. Calvo, L. Koči, and P. Schwerdtfeger, "Accurate melting temperatures for neon and argon from ab initio Monte Carlo simulations," Angew. Chem., Int. Ed. 47, 8207 (2008)]. Our results for argon demonstrate that for the extrapolation to the bulk one does not have to restrict to magic number cluster sizes in order to obtain good estimates for the bulk melting temperature. However, the extrapolation to the bulk remains a problem, especially for the systematic selection of suitable cluster sizes.

The pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD) is gradually evolving from a central neurodegeneration-centered concept to a multi-pathway pathological model at the gut-brain system level. Studies have shown that PD patients commonly exhibit dysbiosis, reduced short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs; microbial fermentation products of dietary fiber that play key roles in host metabolism and immune regulation), abnormal tryptophan metabolism, and impaired gut barrier function. These alterations may contribute to dopaminergic neuronal damage through mechanisms including neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and α-synuclein (α-syn) aggregation.

The property prediction of two-dimensional (2D) materials has been constrained to specific systems or the highly self-similar Computational 2D Materials Database (C2DB) due to limited data availability and inadequate feature extraction. These challenges impede extrapolated predictions and large-scale exploitation across diverse databases. We developed a model named crystal surface and cluster network (CCSN) that integrates crystal surface and cluster features while leveraging transfer learning from bulk material databases to enhance model performance.

Background: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols reduce length of stay, complications, and costs for elective surgical procedures. It remains challenging to implement ERAS concepts in the acute trauma patient due to deranged physiological reserve from the penetrating or blunt trauma producing altered physiology. However, systems of care improve access to early intervention and potentially reduce mortality.
