Of 18 vanA-positive vancomycin-susceptible Enterococcus faecium isolates, vanRS in the vanA cluster was detected in all isolates, while vanHAX was detected in only 2 isolates. Following exposure to glycopeptides, 22.2% of vancomycin-susceptible E. faecium (VSE) converted into vancomycin-resistant E. faecium. The vanA cluster of the revertant mutant was transferred to the VSE isolates.

: Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) are significant nosocomial pathogens worldwide, potentially transmitted by food-producing animals and related products. This study investigates the epidemiological role of bovine raw milk in the transmission of VRE to humans. : Bulk milk samples were screened for gene presence using a multiplex PCR.

: Enterococci, particularly and , are Gram-positive cocci that can cause severe infections in hospitalized patients. The rise of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) and vancomycin-variable enterococci (VVE) poses significant challenges in healthcare settings due to their resistance to multiple antibiotics. : We conducted a point prevalence survey (PPS) to assess the prevalence of VRE and VVE colonization in hospitalized patients.

Since 2012, Denmark has seen a significant rise in vancomycin-resistant (VREfm) cases, mirroring trends in other countries, though exceptions occurred during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) lockdown and between 2022 and 2023. This rise has been accompanied by ongoing changes in the endemic VREfm clones, reflecting the species' high genetic plasticity. VREfm rapidly acquires plasmids and mobile genetic elements, enriching it with putative virulence markers (PVMs), including surface proteins, pili, and factors encoding biofilm production and adhesion.
