Peripartum cardiomyopathy is a rare form of cardiomyopathy that is associated with significant mortality. It can cause a cardiac arrest during cesarean section even though the patient does not have any previous symptom and sign. The most important thing of anesthesia in this patient is an optimization of hemodynamic and respiratory status. We report the successful general anesthesia using of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for cesarean section in a 34-year-old woman with fulminant peripartum cardiomyopathy.

This study aimed to measure the concentrations of amiodarone (AM) and its active metabolite, mono--desethylamiodarone (DEA), in the breast milk of postpartum Japanese women treated with AM for ventricular tachycardia associated with peripartum cardiomyopathy and to conduct a follow-up study on the long-term growth and development of infants after resumption of breastfeeding. The patient was a 28-year-old Japanese woman with no underlying diseases who developed ventricular tachycardia and peripartum cardiomyopathy after giving birth. She was administered AM for three days via a combination of oral and intravenous administration.

Aims: The diagnosis of peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is often delayed due to the absence of disease-specific biomarkers. Recently, serum proteins-QSOX1, adiponectin (ADIPOQ) and ITIH3-have shown potential for improving diagnostic accuracy, especially when used with NT-proBNP. However, the influence of ethnicity on their expression remains unclear.

Electronic cigarettes (E-cigs) are commonly presumed as a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes despite limited understanding of their health risks. This assumption may lead people, especially those in at-risk groups, to switch from traditional cigarettes to e-cigs, or to use e-cigs as their first form of nicotine consumption. Despite that pregnancy increases susceptibility to adverse cardiac events, a considerable fraction of pregnant women use e-cigs during gestation and postpartum.

Background: Hyponatremia is the most common electrolyte imbalance, however the prognostic significance of hyponatremia in peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) remains unclear.
Aim: To assess the prognostic significance of hyponatremia in PPCM patients.
Methods: We consecutively recruited patients with PPCM from 14 sites in Nigeria and followed them up for a median of 18 months.
