Hypericum perforatum (Hp) extracts contain many different classes of constituents including flavonoids and biflavonoids, phloroglucinols, naphthodianthrones, caffeic acid derivatives, and unknown and/or unidentified compounds. Many constituents may be responsible for the anti-inflammatory activity of Hp including quercetin and derivatives, hyperforin, pseudohypericin, and amentoflavone. In line with antidepressant data, it appears that the interactions of constituents may be important for the anti-inflammatory activity of Hp. Interactions of constituents, tested in bioavailability models, may explain why synergistic mechanisms have been found to be important for antidepressant and antiproliferative bioactivities. This review highlights the relationship among individual constituents and the anti-inflammatory activity of Hp extracts and proposes that interactions of constituents may be important for the anti-inflammatory activity of botanical extracts, although the exact mechanisms of the interactions are still unclear.

Argemone mexicana is one of the known herbaceous plants hosting bioactive isoquinoline alkaloids. In the current study, an endophytic fungal isolate was studied for anti-inflammatory potential and the identification of its bioactive molecule. An endophytic fungus AMEF-14 was obtained from this plant and identified as Cladosporium ramotenellum based on microscopy and molecular tools.

Seaweeds are marine macroalgae that are rich in various secondary metabolites known to exhibit different biological activities such as anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, etc. This study aimed to determine the bioactive metabolites, as well as the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of two red algae (Ceramium virgatum and Gracilaria corticata) and two green algae (Enteromorpha flexuosa and Ulva fasciata), which are prevalent in the coastal region of the Bay of Bengal. The total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminium chloride methods.

It is helpful for diagnostic purposes to improve our current knowledge of gut development and serum biochemistry in young piglets. This study investigated serum biochemistry, and gut site-specific patterns of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) and expression of genes related to barrier function, innate immune response, antioxidative status and sensing of fatty and bile acids in suckling and newly weaned piglets. The experiment consisted of two replicate batches with 10 litters each.

Background And Aims: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), remain heterogeneous disorders with variable response to biologics. Post-operative recurrence in CD is common despite surgery and prophylactic biotherapies. Understanding the inflammatory mediators associated with recurrence and treatment response could pave the way for personalized strategies.
