Although the corrin ring of vitamin B12 is unable to efficiently absorb light beyond 550 nm, it is shown that commercially available fluorophores can be used as antennas to capture long-wavelength light to promote scission of the Co-C bond at wavelengths up to 800 nm. The ability to control the molecular properties of bioactive species with long visible and near-IR light has implications for drug delivery, nanotechnology, and the spatiotemporal control of cellular behavior.

Titanium dioxide (TiO) thin films were deposited on glass substrates under HV conditions at room temperature by the physical vapor deposition method. Produced titanium thin films were post-annealed at 573 K at different oxygen flows (0, 9 and 23 cm/s). The influence of different oxygen flows on nano-structure, crystallography, and optical parameters of TiO films was investigated by XRD, AFM, and spectrophotometer in the UV-VIS wavelength range.

The coordination chemistry of the planar, doubly π-extended bipyridine analog, 6,6',7,7'-biphenanthridine (p-biphe), is presented. The phenanthridine units in p-biphe are fused together at the 6- and 7- positions, and the resulting rigid ligand is compared with the more flexible parent "biphe" fused only at the 6-positions. p-Biphe is intensely fluorescent in solution with a much higher quantum yield, but, unlike biphe, at 77 K the fluorescence is not accompanied by any significant phosphorescence.

ConspectusLocalized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), a distinctive optoelectronic property of plasmonic nanocrystals, arises from the collective oscillation of conduction electrons in resonance with incident light. The excitation of LSPR confines incident light near the surface of plasmonic nanocrystals and amplifies the local electric field. Moreover, the frequency of LSPR is highly tunable in the visible and near-IR regions, allowing plasmonic nanocrystals to efficiently absorb and scatter light across the solar spectrum.
