A series of novel, highly selective azo dye-thiosemicarbazones based anion sensors (3e-f) have been synthesized from the condensation reaction between thiosemicarbazide and six different azo salicylaldehydes. The structure of the sensors was confirmed by spectroscopic methods. The selectivity and sensitivity in the recognition for acetate anion over other anions such as fluoride, chloride, iodide and dihydrogenphosphate anions were determined by naked-eyes and UV-vis spectra. The color of the solution containing sensor had an obvious change from light yellow to orange only after the addition of acetate anion in aqueous solution (water/dimethylsulfoxide, 7:3, v/v) while other anions did not cause obvious color change. The anion recognition property of the receptor via proton-transfer is monitored by UV-vis titration and (1)H NMR spectroscopy. Under condition in aqueous solution of sensor 3e (water/dimethylsulfoxide, 7:3, v/v), linearity range for the quantification of acetate anion was 1-22 μM and limit of detection (LOD) of acetate anion was 0.71 μM.

A triphenyl-imidazole end-capped donor-acceptor type potential molecular probe 3 has been designed and synthesized. Probe 3 upon interaction with different classes of metal ions/anions and NPPs displayed high selectivity with CN anion (LOD = 20.42 nM) through fluorescence "turn-Off" response and a naked-eye sensitive visible color change.

Zinc(II) bis(triazolyl)(pyridyl)amine (Zn(BTPA)) complexes on the end of α-amino-iso-butyric acid (Aib) foldamers are able to transfer chirality from bound anions to the helical foldamer body. Zn(BTPA) could be obtained by simple synthetic methodology that allowed a range of functional groups to be installed around the binding site, exemplified with a fluorophore, a macrocyclic bridge and Aib itself. Changing functional group did not prevent chiral ligands from controlling foldamer conformation, although differences in complexation kinetics and equilibria were observed.

Purpose: To evaluate the impact of MRP inhibition by MK571 on prostate hypercontractility in diet-induced obesity, based on the hypothesis that this intervention enhances intracellular cAMP and cGMP signaling.
Methods: Adult C57BL/6 mice were divided into three groups: (i) lean, (ii) obese, and (iii) obese + MK571 (5 mg/kg/day, 14 days). The prostate was isolated for immunohistochemistry, biochemistry and functional assays.

Background: Previous studies involving cleanup via conventional solid-phase extraction (SPE) materials to overcome matrix effects for the polar organophosphonate and -phosphinate pesticides glyphosate, glufosinate, ethephon, fosetyl, and their various metabolites often showed limitations due to the existence of various matrix compounds in plant commodities with similar polarity. To overcome existing drawbacks, we utilized the unique selectivity provided by metal oxides as SPE materials. These were exploited in a novel automated online SPE-LC-MS/MS method which allowed analyte-specific trapping in the presence of excessive amounts of matrix compounds as typically contained in extracts of the Quick Polar Pesticides (QuPPe) method.
