Objectives: Limited-cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc), formerly known as CREST syndrome (calcinosis, Raynaud phenomenon, esophageal dysmotility, scleroderma, and telangiectasias) is an auto-immune connective tissue disease characterized by cutaneous fibrosis and systemic fibrovascular dysfunction. The cutaneous fibrosis of lcSSc is commonly limited to acral sites, with perioral involvement seen in 70%-85% of cases. Patients often seek treatment of lcSSc-associated microstomia for functional and cosmetic purposes.

Unlabelled: The purpose of this chapter is to thoroughly review the properties and pitfalls of various casting materials used in pediatric fracture care. Additionally, we will examine the unique characteristics of children that influence decision-making regarding the selection of materials for the under- and over-layers of a cast, as well as considerations based on anatomic location and type of cast. Generally, the underlayer of any cast provides cushioning and protects the underlying soft tissues, whereas the overlayer delivers rigid immobilization intended to maintain the alignment of the fracture.

An 81-year-old woman with chronic right-sided motor and sensory neuropathy, a result of radiation-induced brachial plexus syndrome, presented with an asymptomatic degloving injury of her distal right index finger. This was rapidly followed by the onset of dry gangrene in both the index and middle fingers. The patient reported no history of trauma or thermal injury, noting that her hand was normal before sleep and that she discovered the injury upon awakening.
