The genetic analysis of high-level mupirocin resistance (Hi-Mup(r)) in a Staphylococcus pseudintermedius isolate from a dog is presented. The Hi-Mup(r) ileS2 gene flanked by a novel rearrangement of directly repeated insertion sequence IS257 elements was located, together with the aminoglycoside resistance aacA-aphD determinant, on a conjugative plasmid related to the pSK41/pGO1 family plasmids.

Background: Colonization with is a risk factor for subsequent infection. Decolonization with the topical antibiotic mupirocin is effective and reduces the risk of subsequent infection for both methicillin-sensitive and methicillin-resistant (MRSA) strains but may select for mupirocin-resistant isolates.
Methods: We characterized oxacillin and mupirocin susceptibility amongst 384 strains isolated from clinical samples isolated in 2017-2023 in Tampa, Florida, spanning strains collected before and after the onset of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Mupirocin (MUP) is a topical antibiotic derived from , widely used for the treatment of superficial skin infections and decolonization of methicillin-resistant (MRSA). Its unique mechanism of action, selective inhibition of bacterial isoleucyl-transfer RNA synthetase, confers high specificity with minimal risk of cross-resistance to other antibiotic classes. This narrative review provides an updated overview of MUP's chemical structure, mechanism of action, clinical efficacy, resistance mechanisms, and global resistance trends based on literature published from 2017 to 2024.

Frequent use of antibiotics increases the incidence of antimicrobial-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in atopic dermatitis (AD), which prompts the search for new treatments. Monolaurin is a chemical byproduct found in coconut oil and has anti-bacterial properties. This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effect of monolaurin on antimicrobial-resistant S.

Background: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a significant public health concern, particularly in healthcare settings where healthcare workers (HCWs) act as reservoirs. The aim of this study was to evaluate various phenotypic methods for detection of MRSA among HCWs and study molecular epidemiology of the MRSA isolates by SCCmec typing.
Methods: A total of 368 nasal swabs were collected from HCWs to study MRSA carriage.
