Article Abstract

Induction coils were fabricated based on flexible printed circuit board for inductive transcutaneous power transmission. The coil had closed magnetic circuit (CMC) structure consisting of inner and outer magnetic core. The power transmission efficiency of the fabricated device was measured in the air and in vivo condition. It was confirmed that the CMC coil had higher transmission efficiency than typical air-core coil. The power transmission efficiency during a misalignment between primary coil and implanted secondary coil was also evaluated. The decrease of mutual inductance between the two coils caused by the misalignment led to a low efficiency of the inductive link. Therefore, it is important to properly align the primary coil and implanted secondary coil for effective power transmission. To align the coils, a feedback coil was proposed. This was integrated on the backside of the primary coil and enabled the detection of a misalignment of the primary and secondary coils. As a result of using the feedback coil, the primary and secondary coils could be aligned without knowledge of the position of the implanted secondary coil.

Missense variants can have pleiotropic effects on protein function, and predicting these effects can be difficult. We performed near-saturation deep mutational scanning of P2RY8, a G protein-coupled receptor that promotes germinal center B cell confinement. We assayed the effect of each variant on surface expression, migration, and proliferation.

Airborne bioaerosol transmission in hospital waiting corridor: Characteristic, exposure risk and evaluation of prevention strategies.

Following the global COVID-19 pandemic, greater attention has been paid to public health safety, especially in hospital environments. In waiting areas with interconnected spaces, complex airflow, unclear bioaerosol dispersion, and the limitations of traditional control methods pose major challenges. This study combined real-world experiments and numerical simulations to investigate the airborne transmission characteristics of pathogen-laden aerosols in a hospital waiting corridor.

Models of how things spread often assume that transmission mechanisms are fixed over time. However, social contagions-the spread of ideas, beliefs, innovations-can lose or gain in momentum as they spread: ideas can get reinforced, beliefs strengthened, products refined. We study the impacts of such self-reinforcement mechanisms in cascade dynamics.

Nano-laminography with a transmission X-ray microscope.

Advanced Photon Source, Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont, IL 60439, USA.

Nano-laminography combines the penetrating power of hard X-rays with a tilted rotational geometry to deliver high-resolution, three-dimensional images of laterally extended, flat specimens that are otherwise incompatible with, or difficult to image using, conventional nano-tomography. In this work, we demonstrate a full-field, X-ray nano-laminography system implemented with the transmission X-ray microscope at beamline 32-ID of the upgraded Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory, USA. By rotating the sample around an axis inclined by 20° to the incident beam, the technique minimizes the long optical path lengths that would otherwise generate excessive artifacts when planar samples are imaged edge-on.

The frequency stability of multiarea power systems is guaranteed by networked load frequency control (LFC). Time delays due to occasional congestions/attacks in the LFC are often much longer than those from signal transmissions during normal communication, which invalidates the previous stability assessment methods. In this article, a novel stability analysis method for this scenario via a segmented delay description and a switched system is proposed.
