Loss of Skeletal Muscle Mass Is Associated With Reduced Cytotoxic T Cell Abundance and Poor Survival in Advanced Lung Cancer.

J Cachexia Sarcopenia Muscle

October 2025

Department of Surgery, NUTRIM School of Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism, Maastricht University, Maastricht, the Netherlands.

Background: Body composition alterations such as skeletal muscle (SM) loss in cancer patients are associated with poor survival. In turn, immune cell-driven pathways have been linked to muscle wasting. We aimed to investigate the relationship between body composition, tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes and survival in patients with advanced lung cancer.

Warfarin is a widely used vitamin K antagonist (VKA) with known pleiotropic effects beyond anticoagulation. Preclinical and case-control evidence suggests that warfarin may affect hematopoiesis, but longitudinal human evidence is lacking. To explore this potential effect, we conducted a post-hoc analysis of participants in the Hokusai-VTE and ENGAGE AF-TIMI 48 trials, which randomized patients to warfarin or the direct oral anticoagulant edoxaban with routine laboratory testing at predefined follow-up visits.

Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) is a rare extranodal lymphoma characterized by selective growth of neoplastic lymphocytes within small vessels, and often lacking lymphadenopathy or circulating malignant cells. Its clinical heterogeneity and nonspecific symptoms frequently cause delayed diagnosis and treatment. We report 3 new cases in elderly patients presenting with unexplained anemia, systemic symptoms in 2 patients, and purpuric skin lesions in one patient.

Background: Radiotherapy (RT) is an essential part of small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) treatment. It can however deplete circulating lymphocytes, impairing systemic immune surveillance and potentially reducing the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). The Effective Dose to Immune Cells (EDIC) quantifies RT-induced immune suppression and has been linked to survival in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but its prognostic significance in SCLC remains unclear.

Stable cytokine network during hypoxia and exercise in patients with Fontan circulation.

Int J Cardiol

September 2025

Department of Molecular and Cellular Sports Medicine, German Sport University Cologne, Am Sportpark Müngersdorf 6, 50933 Cologne, Germany. Electronic address:

Background: Patients with Fontan circulation are often advised to avoid hypoxic exposure due to presumed cardiopulmonary vulnerability. Low-grade inflammation has also been reported in this population and may be influenced by hypoxia and/or exercise. Based on the potential interaction between hypoxia and submaximal exercise in modulating inflammatory signaling, we hypothesized that this combination could exacerbate subclinical inflammation.
