Article Abstract

As a part of our research to develop novel antitubercular and antimicrobial agents, a series of 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-substituted pyrazoles have been synthesised. These compounds were tested for antitubercular activity in vitro against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv strain using the BACTEC 460 radiometric system, antifungal activity against a pathogenic strain of fungi and antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. Among them tested, many compounds showed good to excellent antimicrobial and antitubercular activity. The results suggest that hydrazones, 2-azetidinones and 4-thiazolidinones bearing a core pyrazole scaffold would be potent antimicrobial and antitubercular agents.

A 27-year-old man from Ethiopia had undergone an extraction of a molar in Libya ten months earlier, after which a submental swelling developed. For that reason, an oral and maxillofacial surgery department was consulted. Clinical examination showed a tender, firm-to-the-touch, non-mobile swelling with central ulceration.

Molecular hybridization of isoniazid with hydrophobic aromatic moieties represents a promising strategy for the development of novel anti-tubercular therapeutics. In this study, a series of hybrid molecules (5a-i) was synthesized by linking isoniazid with aromatic sulfonate esters via a hydrazone bridge. Molecular docking studies revealed that these compounds interact effectively with the catalytic triad of the InhA enzyme (Y158, F149, and K165), suggesting their potential as InhA inhibitors.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors reduced proteinuria in patients with IgA nephropathy; however, their efficacy in patients at high risk of progression receiving immunosuppressive agents and renin angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors remains unclear. After 3 months of low-dose steroid alone or combined with mycophenolate mofetil, as well as renin angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors treatment, 105 biopsy-proven IgA nephropathy patients with proteinuria greater than 0.5 g/d were included in this study.

A rare pediatric case of immune thrombocytopenia attributed to brucellosis.

Turk J Pediatr

September 2025

Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, Batman Training and Research Hospital, Batman, Türkiye.

Background: Brucellosis is a zoonotic infection transmitted to humans by ingestion of contaminated unpasteurized dairy products or via direct or indirect contact with infected animals. It is characterized by nonspecific symptoms like fever and joint pain, and laboratory findings including anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, or rarely pancytopenia. Here we report a case of brucellosis with thrombocytopenia that did not improve despite anti-brucella treatment and required intravenous immunoglobulin treatment.

Introduction: The alarming rate of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) globally is a threat to treatment success among positive tuberculosis (TB) cases. Studies aimed at determining the prevalence, trend of DR-TB and socio-demographic and clinical risk factors contributing to DR-TB in the four regions of Ghana are currently unknown. This study sought to determine the prevalence and trend of DR-TB, identify socio-demographic and clinical risk factors that influence DR-TB, and analyse the relationship between underweight and adverse drug reactions and treatment outcomes among DR-TB patients in four regions of Ghana.
