Article Abstract

High-purity syntheses are reported for a series of first, second, and third row transition metal and actinide hexahalide compounds with equivalent, noncoordinating countercations: (Ph(4)P)(2)TiF(6) (1) and (Ph(4)P)(2)MCl(6) (M = Ti, Zr, Hf, Th, U, Np, Pu; 2-8). While a reaction between MCl(4) (M = Zr, Hf, U) and 2 equiv of Ph(4)PCl provided 3, 4, and 6, syntheses for 1, 2, 5, 7, and 8 required multistep procedures. For example, a cation exchange reaction with Ph(4)PCl and (NH(4))(2)TiF(6) produced 1, which was used in a subsequent anion exchange reaction with Me(3)SiCl to synthesize 2. For 5, 7, and 8, synthetic routes starting with aqueous actinide precursors were developed that circumvented any need for anhydrous Th, Np, or Pu starting materials. The solid-state geometries, bond distances and angles for isolated ThCl(6)(2-), NpCl(6)(2-), and PuCl(6)(2-) anions with noncoordinating counter cations were determined for the first time in the X-ray crystal structures of 5, 7, and 8. Solution phase and solid-state diffuse reflectance spectra were also used to characterize 7 and 8. Transition metal MCl(6)(2-) anions showed the anticipated increase in M-Cl bond distances when changing from M = Ti to Zr, and then a decrease from Zr to Hf. The M-Cl bond distances also decreased from M = Th to U, Np, and Pu. Ionic radii can be used to predict average M-Cl bond distances with reasonable accuracy, which supports a principally ionic model of bonding for each of the (Ph(4)P)(2)MCl(6) complexes.

We report the synthesis of homoleptic two-coordinate Co and Ni complexes supported by a sterically hindered NIm ligand (1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolin-2-iminato). Their formulation as two-coordinate complexes was verified by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, and their M-N bond distances are between those in the reported transition-metal imido and amido complexes, suggesting a multiple-bond character. These coordinatively unsaturated complexes readily react with GeCl·dioxane, affording bimetallic Co/Ge and Ni/Ge complexes, demonstrating facile and rational syntheses of heterobimetallic complexes.

The interactions of three berberine mid-chain fatty acid salts ([BBR][C], n = 6, 7, 8) with lysozyme (Lyz) are investigated in detail using multi-spectroscopic and molecular docking techniques. Steady-state fluorescence and UV-visible absorption experiments suggest that the binding mechanism of [BBR][C] on Lyz is a static quenching with a binding ratio of 1:1. The compound [BBR][C] exhibits a moderate binding affinity toward Lyz.

The unit cell of the title compound, [Ni(CHNO)]·2CHOH, consists of a neutral complex and two methanol mol-ecules. In the complex, the two tridentate 2-[3-(benzo[][1,3]dioxol-5-yl)-1-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl]-6-(1-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine ligands coordinate to the central Ni ion through nitro-gen atoms of the pyrazole, pyridine and triazole groups, forming a pseudo-octa-hedral coordination sphere. Neighbouring mol-ecules are linked through weak C-H(pz)⋯π(ph) inter-actions into monoperiodic chains, which are further linked through weak C-H⋯H/N/C inter-actions into diperiodic layers.

Within the broader topic of women's intuition, the focus of this work is mother-offspring intuition-the enigmatic connection between a mother and her offspring, wherein distress or imminent harm is instantly sensed, even when thousands of miles apart. Instant nonlocal communication irrespective of distance, is known as entanglement in quantum physics, and has been repeatedly verified since the 1970's. Building upon this discovery, a new concept--is postulated to create a two-way micro to macroscale bond of tacit connection between a mother and a fetus, initiated at conception.

The title compound, di-μ-hydroxido-bis-[iodido-diphenyl-tin(IV)]-1,3-di-methyl-imidazolidin-2-one (1/2), [Sn(CH)I(OH)]·2CHNO, represents only the second example in the dimeric diorganotin(IV)-hydroxide-halide solvates [ Sn(OH)]·2 with = I. As is usual for this class of compound, dimerization takes place the oxygen atoms of the hydroxyl groups and leads to a planar, centrosymmetric, four-membered Sn-O ring of rhomboidal shape whose Sn-O distances [2.024 (2)/2.
