Understanding the mechanisms of distributed computation in cellular automata requires techniques for characterizing the emergent structures that underlie information processing in such systems. Recently, techniques from information theory have been brought to bear on this problem. Building on this work, we utilize the new technique of partial information decomposition to show that previous information-theoretic measures can confound distinct sources of information. We then propose a new set of filters and demonstrate that they more cleanly separate out the background domains, particles, and collisions that are typically associated with information storage, transfer, and modification in cellular automata.

For the first time, we examined the catalytic performance of a NiB/SiO catalyst with 10 wt % NiB in model hydrodesulfurization of 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene (4,6-DMDBT) also together with a competing nitrogen compound, that is, carbazole. The NiB/SiO catalyst (fresh, reduced, and spent) was characterized using the following techniques: N sorption, ICP, XRD, CO chemisorption, XPS, and elemental analysis. The results of XRD, XPS, and elemental analysis indicated the partial decomposition of the NiB phase into metallic nickel (accompanied by boron atoms) and partial sulfidation into NiS species under reaction conditions.

Antimony (Sb) is extensively utilized in industrial activities, but most of its compounds exhibit human toxicity and are classified as priority-controlled pollutants. Unlike traditional electrochemical methods that remove metallic pollutants via coagulation or precipitation, electrochemical hydride generation technology converts antimony (Sb) in wastewater into stibine gas (SbH3) for efficient removal. Furthermore, the generated SbH₃ can be decomposed thermally to partially recover metallic antimony.

The lotus-fish co-culture (LFC) system leverages plant-fish symbiosis to optimize aqua-culture environments, enhancing both economic and ecological yields. However, the eco-logical mechanisms of microbial communities in LFC systems remain poorly understood, particularly regarding the functional roles of fungi, archaea, and viruses. This study compared microbiota (viruses, archaea, fungi) in water, sediment, and fish (crucian carp) gut of LFC and intensive pond culture (IPC) systems using integrated metagenomic and environmental analyses.

To effectively solve the problems of white noise and periodic narrowband interference in partial discharge detection, this paper proposes a partial discharge denoising method that combines the optimization of successive variational mode decomposition (SVMD) and wavelet threshold denoising. Compared to variational mode decomposition, SVMD does not require the pre-setting of the number of decomposition modes. However, it is affected by the balance parameter.
