Development and progression of colon cancer may be related to cytokines. Cytokines with diagnostic value have been identified individually but have not been implemented into clinical praxis. Using a multiplex protein array, the authors explore a panel of cytokines simultaneously and compared its performance to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9). Serum concentrations of 12 cytokines were simultaneously determined by multiplex biochip technology in 50 colon cancer patients and 50 healthy controls. Serum levels of interleukin-8 (IL-8) and CEA were significantly higher in cancer patients than in healthy controls. Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) were largest for IL-8, followed by CEA, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and CA 19-9. Analyses regarding marker combinations showed an advantage over single marker performance for CEA, VEGF, and CA 19-9 but not for IL-8. Multiplex biochip array technology represents a practical tool in cytokine and cancer research when simultaneous determination of different biomarkers is of interest. The results suggest that the assessment of IL-8, CEA, VEGF, and possibly CA 19-9 serum levels could be useful for colon cancer screening with the potential of also detecting early stage tumors. Further validation studies using these and additional markers on a multiplex array format are encouraged.

This study aimed to synthesize and evaluate the anticancer activity of novel chalcone derivative against colon cancer by in vitro cytotoxicity against HCT-116 (Research Resource Identifiers:CVCL_D4JB) cell line and in vivo using EAC (Research Resource Identifiers: CVCL_1306) and DLA (Research Resource Identifiers: CVCL_VR37) cells inoculated Swiss albino mice. The present study aimed to synthesize the new chalcone derivatives and conduct its anti-colon cancer activity both in vitro and in vivo. The designed compounds were subjected to in silico studies like binding pocket analysis, molecular docking, and ADME studies.

Purpose: To build computed tomography (CT)-based radiomics models, with independent external validation, to predict recurrence and disease-specific mortality in patients with colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) who underwent liver resection.
Methods: 113 patients were included in this retrospective study: the internal training cohort comprised 66 patients, while the external validation cohort comprised 47. All patients underwent a CT study before surgery.

In an attempt to react aminocyclopropenones with cyclic imines in order to synthesise amido-substituted pyrrolizidine natural products, we found that aminocyclopropenones undergo a previously unreported stereospecific and regiospecific catalyst-free, thermal ring-opening reaction with alcohols to yield β-enamino esters (also known as vinylogous carbamates or aminoacrylates). We report 21 examples in 45 to 97% isolated yield. The reaction occurs nucleophilic attack at the cyclopropenone carbonyl followed by regiospecific ring opening of the cyclopropenone with retention of alkene geometry.

Background: The association between preoperative liver function and short-term outcomes after gastrointestinal cancer surgery is unknown. This study investigated the impact of Child-Pugh score-based preoperative liver dysfunction on short-term outcomes after distal gastrectomy and right hemicolectomy.
Materials And Methods: We included patients who underwent distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer or right hemicolectomy for colon cancer between 2018 and 2022 from the Japanese National Clinical Database.

Aim And Background: This study investigates the impact of D3 lymph node dissection extent on postoperative bowel function and nutritional status in patients undergoing radical surgery for right-sided colon cancer. Given that postoperative diarrhea can significantly affect the quality of life, we examined whether dissection boundaries influence these outcomes.
Methods: This was a prospective, randomized controlled trial conducted at a high-volume tertiary hospital.
