The variable domains of antigen receptors are very diverse and assembled in a modular system from a number of V-, D-, and J-region genes. Here we describe additional variants of V- and J-region genes of the feline T-cell receptor gamma (TRG) as well as the corresponding RSSs retrieved from Trace Archive of feline genomic sequences. Additionally, an unusually recombined TRGV-domain containing a partial inverted repeat of the included J-region and a short interspersed element of the CAN-SINE family located within the feline T-cell receptor gamma locus are also described.

Injections have been linked to feline sarcomas (feline injection-site sarcoma; FISS) and cutaneous lymphomas (cutaneous lymphoma at injection site; CLIS). Both tumors often exhibit lymphoplasmacytic inflammation ascribed to injected immunogenic material. CLIS is hypothesized to emerge from transformation and clonal expansion of lymphoid cells following persistent immune stimulation with feline leukemia virus (FeLV) reactivation and transformation.

The Feline McDonough sarcoma-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3)/FLT3 ligand (FLT3L) pathway is associated with pathogenesis of several autoimmune diseases, including Sjögren's. Inflammatory signals increase FLT3L levels; FLT3L signaling promotes further inflammation through the differentiation, function, and survival of immune cells, including dendritic cells (DCs), monocytes, and B cells. Patients with Sjögren's have elevated FLT3L levels, increased infiltration of DCs, macrophages, and B cells into salivary glands and tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS).

A 13-year-old, male neutered, Domestic Shorthair cat presented to the Virginia Tech Veterinary Teaching Hospital Neurology service for evaluation of episodes of altered mental status. On initial evaluation, the patient was noted to be alert and responsive, with a vestibular ataxia characterized by falling to the left and circling to the right. The neuroanatomic localization was consistent with multifocal intracranial disease affecting both brainstem and forebrain structures.

Introduction: Flow cytometry (FC) is widely used in humans and dogs to diagnose and characterize hematopoietic neoplasms. Conversely, its use in feline patients is still limited, leading to a lack of standardized protocols and subjective data interpretation.
Methods: Herein, we describe FC features of circulating lymphoid subsets in a total of 20 cats: 9 healthy cats, 6 diseased cats without hematopoietic neoplasm, and 5 cats with probable chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), using a panel of 10 antibodies and a multicolor approach, in terms of both cell size (nFSC) and degree of antigen expression (MFI).
