High-Efficiency Wireless-Power-Transfer System Using Fully Rollable Tx/Rx Coils and Metasurface Screen.

Sensors (Basel)

February 2023

Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL 32611, USA.

This work presents a high-efficiency reconfigurable wireless-power-transfer (WPT) system using fully rollable Tx/Rx coils and a metasurface (MS) screen working at 6.78 MHz, for the first time. The MS screens are placed between the Tx and Rx to magnify the power-transfer efficiency (PTE) of the WPT system.

Wearable electronics is a growing field that has important applications in advanced human-integrated systems with high performance and mechanical deformability, especially foldable characteristics. Although foldable electronics such as rollable TVs (LG signature OLED R) or foldable smartphones (Samsung Galaxy Z fold/flip series) have been successfully established in the market, these devices are still powered by rigid and stiff batteries. Therefore, to realize fully wearable devices, it is necessary to develop state-of-the-art foldable batteries with high performance and safety in dynamic deformation states.

Multifunctional Batteries: Flexible, Transient, and Transparent.

ACS Cent Sci

February 2021

Laboratory for Multifunctional Materials, Department of Materials, ETH Zurich, Vladimir-Prelog-Weg 5, 8093 Zurich, Switzerland.

The primary task of a battery is to store energy and to power electronic devices. This has hardly changed over the years despite all the progress made in improving their electrochemical performance. In comparison to batteries, electronic devices are continuously equipped with new functions, and they also change their physical appearance, becoming flexible, rollable, stretchable, or maybe transparent or even transient or degradable.

Using Dual Microresonant Cavity and Plasmonic Effects to Enhance the Photovoltaic Efficiency of Flexible Polymer Solar Cells.

Fabricating polymer solar cells (PSCs) on flexible polymer substrates, instead of on hard glass, is attractive for implementing the advantage and uniqueness of the PSCs represented by mechanically rollable and light-weight natures. However, simultaneously achieving reliable robustness and high-power conversion efficiency (PCE) in such flexible PSCs is still technically challenging due to poor light harvesting of thin photoactive polymers. In this work, we report a facile, effective strategy for improving the light-harvesting performance of flexible PSCs without sacrificing rollability.

Design of InZnSnO Semiconductor Alloys Synthesized by Supercycle Atomic Layer Deposition and Their Rollable Applications.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

April 2019

Division of Materials Science and Engineering , Hanyang University, 222, Wangsimni-ro , Seongdong-gu, Seoul 04763 , Republic of Korea.

Amorphous InGaZnO semiconductors have been rapidly developed as active charge-transport materials in thin film transistors (TFTs) because of their cost effectiveness, flexibility, and homogeneous characteristics for large-area applications. Recently, InZnSnO (IZTO) with superior mobility (higher than 20 cm V s) has been suggested as a promising oxide semiconductor material for high-resolution, large-area displays. However, the electrical and physical characteristics of IZTO have not been fully characterized.
