Plastic pollution is a major environmental challenge, with millions of tonnes produced annually and accumulating in ecosystems, causing long-term harm. Conventional disposal methods, such as landfilling and incineration, are often inadequate, emphasising the need for sustainable solutions like bioremediation. However, the bacterial biodiversity involved in plastic biodegradation remains poorly understood.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, such as Empagliflozin, are antidiabetic drugs that reduce glucose levels and have emerged as a promising therapy for patients with heart failure (HF), although the exact molecular mechanisms underlying their cardioprotective effects remain to be fully elucidated. The EmDia study, a randomized, double-blind trial conducted at the University Medical Center of Mainz, has confirmed the beneficial effects of Empagliflozin in HF patients after both one and twelve weeks of treatment. In this work, we aimed to assess whether changes in lipid profiles driven by Empagliflozin use in HF patients in the EmDia trial could assist in gaining a better understanding of its cardioprotective mechanisms.

Background: Multisensory integration (MSI) enables the brain to combine sensory inputs by defining spatial and temporal boundaries that determine whether stimuli originate from the same event. Among these, the temporal binding window (TBW) specifically refers to the temporal range within which stimuli are perceived as simultaneous and integrated. In adulthood, TBW can be narrowed through short-term perceptual training.

Exploring psychiatric antecedents in youths at Clinical High Risk for Psychosis (CHR-P) could help understand determinants for early detection and timely care pathways, consequently improving outcomes and prognosis. The aims of this investigation were: (1) to examine the proportion of CHR-P individuals with past contact with mental healthcare services enrolled within a specialized CHR-P service, and (2) to longitudinally compare sociodemographic, clinical, and treatment parameters between CHR-P subjects with and without psychiatric antecedents across 2 years of follow-up. All participants (aged 12-25 years) were recruited within the "Parma At Risk Mental States" (PARMS) program.
