At least two independent parameters are necessary for compound identification in metabolomics. We have compiled 2 212 electron impact mass spectra and retention indices for quadrupole and time-of-flight gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) for over 1000 primary metabolites below 550 Da, covering lipids, amino acids, fatty acids, amines, alcohols, sugars, amino-sugars, sugar alcohols, sugar acids, organic phosphates, hydroxyl acids, aromatics, purines, and sterols as methoximated and trimethylsilylated mass spectra under electron impact ionization. Compounds were selected from different metabolic pathway databases. The structural diversity of the libraries was found to be highly overlapping with metabolites represented in the BioMeta/KEGG pathway database using chemical fingerprints and calculations using Instant-JChem. In total, the FiehnLib libraries comprised 68% more compounds and twice as many spectra with higher spectral diversity than the public Golm Metabolite Database. A range of unique compounds are present in the FiehnLib libraries that are not comprised in the 4345 trimethylsilylated spectra of the commercial NIST05 mass spectral database. The libraries can be used in conjunction with GC/MS software but also support compound identification in the public BinBase metabolomic database that currently comprises 5598 unique mass spectra generated from 19,032 samples covering 279 studies of 47 species (plants, animals, and microorganisms).

Mogrosides are the main non-caloric sweeteners in Siraitia grosvenorii, with sweetness determined by specific chemical structures. However, the diversity of triterpenoid skeletons and glucosylation patterns suggests that the variety of mogrosides remains insufficiently characterized. Ionic liquids (ILs) have been gaining increasing focus in a variety of applications including emerging electric-propulsion concepts. A quantitative understanding of how IL ions fragment during high-energy collisions with background gases is therefore essential for interpreting mass spectra, predicting ion lifetimes in plasma and vacuum environments, and designing IL-based technologies. This work uses molecular dynamics (MD) simulations with a reactive force field to numerically model the collision-induced dissociation (CID) of isolated ions (both positive and negative) and ion clusters (2:1 and 1:2 clusters) of the prototypical ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EMIM-BF), colliding with a nitrogen (N) molecule, exploring all possible fragmentation channels arising from the breaking of both ionic and covalent bonds at collision energies ranging from 10 electron volts (eV) to 100 electron volts (eV) in the laboratory frame.

The surfaces of 1D layered lepidocrocite-structured titanates (1DLs) are negatively charged due to an oxygen-to-titanium atomic ratio >2. This, and their layered structure, allow for facile ion exchange and high colloidal stability, demonstrated by ζ-potentials of ≈ -85 mV at their unadjusted pH of ≈10.4.

Ti(CH) complexes produced by laser vaporization in a supersonic expansion are investigated with mass spectrometry, infrared laser photodissociation spectroscopy, and UV laser photodissociation. The mass distributions of the cluster ions produced are found to vary significantly with the sample rod mounting configuration in the source. For infrared spectroscopy experiments, the so-called "offset" rod mounting produces colder conditions than the "cutaway" configuration, which allows tagging the ions with one or more argon atoms for the = 1 and 2 complexes.
