Article Abstract

A screen-printed silver strip with three-electrode configuration of Ag-working, Ag-counter and Ag/Ag(x)O reference electrodes was developed for simultaneous determination of chloride, bromide and iodide in aqueous solutions. It was fabricated simply by screen-printing silver ink onto a polypropylene (PP) base. The in-situ prepared Ag/Ag(x)O reference electrode can avoid the leaching interference in chloride detection while using a conventional Ag/AgCl reference electrode. A single drop of analyte (50 microl) is enough to determine iodide, bromide and chloride by measuring the well-separated oxidation peak currents of respective silver halides. The calibration graph was linear from 10 microM to 20 mM for iodide and bromide and 100 microM to 20 mM for chloride and the detection limit (S/N=3) was 3.05 microM, 2.95 microM and 18.83 microM for iodide, bromide and chloride, respectively. The strip is designed to be disposable and as such manual polishing is not necessary. The proposed sensor is not only simple to manufacture and easy to operate but also fast and precise with little detection volume. It is successfully applied to the determination of halide ions in real samples.

The dynamics of the different constituents of the ionic liquid 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (HmimCl) is investigated using nuclear magnetic resonance including chlorine relaxometry, line shape analysis, and proton-detected diffusometry, as well as frequency-dependent shear mechanical measurements. This combination of techniques is useful to probe the individual motions of the anions and the cations, and the sample's overall flow response. The 35Cl- dynamics appears to be close to the structural (or α-) relaxation as seen by rheology.

Photoredox mediated one-step syntheses of aryl -glycosides from unprotected glycosyl sulfinates.

Unprotected glycosyl sulfinates undergo Ni-mediated cross coupling with a range of aryl iodides and bromides under photoredox conditions to yield aryl -glycosides, predominantly as the β-anomers. Thioglycoside formation is occasionally observed as a competitive side reaction.

The peroxidovanadium(V) complex [VO(O)(HO)(bpy)]·3HO·0.5bpy (1), where bpy = 2,2'-bypiridine, featuring η-coordinated peroxide and hydroperoxide ligands, is reported as an efficient functional model of vanadium haloperoxidases (VHPOs). Structural and spectroscopic analyses indicate similarities between 1 and VHPO active sites, including peroxide ligand protonation.

This article describes a detailed investigation of the palladium-catalyzed coupling of aryl (pseudo)halides (ArX) with MSCF to form aryl trifluoromethylthioethers (ArSCF). Mechanistic organometallic studies are used to interrogate two key elementary steps of the catalytic cycle: (1) transmetalation of Pd(Ar)(X) complexes with MSCF and (2) Ar-SCF bond-forming reductive elimination. These studies reveal that tetramethylammonium trifluoromethylthiolate, NMeSCF, exhibits a combination of fast kinetics and high chemoselectivity for transmetalation.

A range of (,)-1,4-diarylbutadienes has been efficiently achieved through a Pd-catalyzed decarboxylative cross-coupling of various 2,4-dienoic acids with diverse (hetero)aryl halides, such as bromides, chlorides, and iodides. This protocol successfully produces the corresponding 1,4-diarylbutadiene cross-coupled products in high yields across a large range of substrates (68 examples), demonstrating compatibility with various sensitive functional groups, including heterocycles. A catalytic amount of silver salt was used as a cocatalyst in this approach, replacing the stoichiometric amounts utilized in earlier reports.
