Article Abstract

We present first-principles calculations of the linewidths of low-energy quasiparticles in n-doped graphene arising from both the electron-electron and the electron-phonon interactions. The contribution to the electron linewidth arising from the electron-electron interactions varies significantly with wave vector at fixed energy; in contrast, the electron-phonon contribution is virtually wave vector independent. These two contributions are comparable in magnitude at a binding energy of approximately 0.2 eV, corresponding to the optical phonon energy. The calculated linewidths, with both electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions included, explain to a large extent the linewidths seen in recent photoemission experiments.

Coulomb drag is a powerful tool to study interactions in coupled low-dimensional systems. Historically, Coulomb drag has been attributed to a frictional force arising from momentum transfer whose direction is dictated by the current flow. In the absence of electron-electron correlations, treating the Coulomb drag circuit as a rectifier of noise fluctuations yields similar conclusions about the reciprocal nature of Coulomb drag.

Despite decades of research, our understanding of radiation damage in aqueous systems remains limited. The recent discovery of Intermolecular Coulombic Decay (ICD) following inner-valence ionization of liquid water raises interesting questions about its efficiency as a major source of low-energy electrons responsible for radiation damage. To investigate, we performed electron-electron coincidence measurements on liquid HO and DO using a monochromatized high-harmonic-generation light source, detecting ICD electrons in coincidence with photoelectrons from the 2a shell.

Harnessing hot carriers in plasmonic nanoparticles provides a promising paradigm for nonequilibrium photodetectors, photocatalysts, and photothermal technologies. Here, we show that the low carrier concentration in plasmonic Sn:InO (ITO) nanocrystals enables efficient hot carrier generation and extraction via hot thermal carriers rather than athermal carriers. Using transient absorption spectroscopy, we measure hot carrier generation and transfer between ITO nanocrystals and Rhodamine B (RhB) adsorbates following infrared plasmonic excitation.

We investigate the hydrodynamic regime in metals with momentum-conserving electron-electron scattering. The conservation of momentum results in well-defined dynamics whose effects we investigate via the relevant continuity equations. We find anomalous contributions to the charge and heat transport currents arising from gradients of the velocity field in a semiclassical treatment with a Berry curvature.

Using PELDOR to count spins on multi-nitroxides.

Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry and Center of Biomolecular Magnetic Resonance, Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Electronic address:

We investigated the accuracy and limitation of using the modulation depth of pulsed electron-electron double resonance experiments to count the number of coupled spins. For this purpose, synthesized multi-nitroxide molecules with 2-6 spins were used. We could show that the main limitation on accurately counting larger number of coupled spins at Q-band frequencies is determined by the reproducibility of adjusting and calibrating the pump pulse excitation efficiency.
