Article Abstract

Differences between chemical activated luciferase gene expression (CALUX) bioassay and chemoanalyses results are observed. This paper shows that calculations of the TEQ values using REP values instead of WHO TEF values give different results. The REP values do affect the results obtained by the CALUX technique. These differences are more marked for the dioxin like PCB compounds (CALUX TEQ values are lower than WHO TEQ values) than for the dioxin compounds (CALUX TEQ values are higher than WHO TEQ values). The CALUX results were compared with the concentrations of the congeners' spiked into the oil.

Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition characterized by difficulties in social interaction, communication, and the presence of repetitive behaviors. The increasing prevalence of ASD highlights the critical need for early diagnosis and tailored, long-term management.

Objective: This study aims to assess the expectations, perceived benefits, and barriers related to telemedicine among physicians and psychiatric residents at the Mental Health Hospital.

Dioxin and PCB monitoring in Greek food products during the period 2002-2022 and preliminary assessment of general population exposure through the diet.

Food Chem Toxicol

Mass Spectrometry and Dioxin Analysis Laboratory, INRASTES, NCSR "Demokritos", Neapoleos 27, 15310, Athens, Greece. Electronic address:

Human dietary exposure to polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs), dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL-PCBs) and non dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (NDL-PCBs) is of worldwide scientific concern due to the health hazards associated with these compounds. In this study an estimation of the dietary intake of adolescents and adults in Greece was attempted for the first time. Representative samples from food categories widely consumed in Greece were collected and analyzed during a period of 21 years (2002-2022).

In this study, we evaluated the quantitative capabilities of a GC-APCI trapped ion mobility (TIMS) TOF platform for the determination of ultra-trace levels of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD/Fs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in complex food matrices. Using a Bruker timsTOF Pro 2 instrument, three fat-based proficiency test samples - fish oil, palm oil, and milk fat - were analyzed and compared to a validated GC-sectorHRMS method, in accordance with the criteria set by Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/644. Linearity was confirmed across broad dynamic ranges, with relative response factor (RRF) precision consistently below 20 %.

This study quantifies persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in food across four territories undergoing dietary transitions: French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Senegal, and Portugal. A total of 200 local and imported food samples from 12 categories were analyzed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Concentrations varied by food matrix, region, and origin.

Air pollution caused by particulate matter (PM) poses serious health risks globally, particularly in rapidly urbanizing Asian cities, where extreme pollution episodes exhibit distinct chemical profiles and sources due to diverse local anthropogenic activities. This study aims to assess the toxicity and mutagenic characteristics of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) originating from particulate matter (PM) in different anthropogenic actives in Asian cities. High-volume samplers were used for ambient PM collection in various Asian cities from 2019 to 2023, and subsequent analyses included PAHs, heavy metals, and water-soluble ions (WSIs).
