The involvement of two R2R3-MYB genes from Pinus taeda L., PtMYB1 and PtMYB8, in phenylpropanoid metabolism and secondary cell wall biogenesis was investigated in planta. These pine MYBs were constitutively overexpressed (OE) in Picea glauca (Moench) Voss, used as a heterologous conifer expression system. Morphological, histological, chemical (lignin and soluble phenols), and transcriptional analyses, i.e. microarray and reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) were used for extensive phenotyping of MYB-overexpressing spruce plantlets. Upon germination of somatic embryos, root growth was reduced in both transgenics. Enhanced lignin deposition was also a common feature but ectopic secondary cell wall deposition was more strongly associated with PtMYB8-OE. Microarray and RT-qPCR data showed that overexpression of each MYB led to an overlapping up-regulation of many genes encoding phenylpropanoid enzymes involved in lignin monomer synthesis, while misregulation of several cell wall-related genes and other MYB transcription factors was specifically associated with PtMYB8-OE. Together, the results suggest that MYB1 and MYB8 may be part of a conserved transcriptional network involved in secondary cell wall deposition in conifers.

Integrins constitute a large and diverse family of cell adhesion molecules that play essential roles in regulating tumor cell differentiation, migration, proliferation, and neovascularization. Tumor cell-derived exosomes, a subtype of extracellular vesicles, are enriched with integrins that reflect their cells of origin. These exosomal integrins can promote extracellular matrix remodeling, immune suppression, and vascular remodeling and are closely linked to tumor progression and metastasis, acting as pivotal players in mediating organ-specific metastasis.

Advances in the immunometabolism field have shown that infiltrated immune cells play a pivotal role in the development and function of thermogenic adipose tissue (TAT), including brown and beige fat. However, scarce research has focused on the role that organized lymphoid structures, like lymph nodes and lymphatics vessels, may exert on TAT. In this review we summarize the evidence suggesting that a significant link exists between the lymphoid tissues and adipose tissue, and we describe the most important in vitro and in vivo findings indicating that organized lymphoid tissues also play an important role in TAT biogenesis and function, raising relevant questions which are still unsolved in this emerging field.

Background: All three dengue vaccines that have completed phase 3 clinical trials have shown greater efficacy in dengue-seropositive compared to dengue-seronegative individuals. This includes the live-attenuated tetravalent dengue vaccine TAK-003, where immunogenicity in baseline seronegative individuals remains lower after two doses, despite seroconversion after the first dose, compared to baseline seropositive individuals after one dose.
Methods: A whole-genome microarray was used to analyze the host response to TAK-003.

Although antimicrobial peptides possess potent antimicrobial activities, the high cost of production, based on amino acid length, has limited their therapeutic and cosmeceutical applications. This study aimed to produce and characterize de novo designed antimicrobial peptides derived from WSKK11 and WSRR11 for efficacy against acne-causing bacteria. Ten designed peptides were evaluated for antimicrobial, hemolytic, and cytotoxic activities, as well as, secondary structures by FTIR and modes of action.
