Beyond complexity measures, sometimes it is worthwhile in addition to investigate how complexity changes structurally, especially in artificial systems where we have complete knowledge about the evolutionary process. Hierarchical decomposition is a useful way of assessing structural complexity changes of organisms modeled as automata, and we show how recently developed computational tools can be used for this purpose, by computing holonomy decompositions and holonomy complexity. To gain insight into the evolution of complexity, we investigate the smoothness of the landscape structure of complexity under minimal transitions. As a proof of concept, we illustrate how the hierarchical complexity analysis reveals symmetries and irreversible structure in biological networks by applying the methods to the lac operon mechanism in the genetic regulatory network of Escherichia coli.

Objectives: This study explores cranial morphological variation and population continuity in the Carpathian Basin from the 1st to 13th centuries CE. It focuses on assessing biological differences and similarities across major archaeological periods, with particular emphasis on the Avar, Hungarian Conquest, and Árpádian Age populations.
Materials And Methods: A total of 1,597 adult crania (864 males, 733 females) were analyzed using six neurocranial measurements.

The significance of carotenoids in biological systems cannot be overstated. Their functionality largely arises from unique excited-state dynamics, where photon absorption promotes the molecule to the optically allowed 1B+u state (conventionally S), which rapidly decays to the optically forbidden 2A-g state (S). While the vibrational signature of the S state is well established, that of the initial S state has remained elusive.

The catastrophic Los Angeles Fires of January 2025 underscore the urgent need to understand the complex interplay between hydroclimatic variability and wildfire behavior. This study investigates how sequential wet and dry periods, hydroclimatic rebound events, create compounding environmental conditions that culminate in extreme fire events. Our results show that a cascade of moisture anomalies, from the atmosphere to vegetation health, precedes these fires by around 6-27 months.

Symphonia globulifera (Clusiaceae) has emerged as a model organism in tropical forest ecology and evolution due to its significant ecological role and complex biogeographical history. Originating from Africa, this species has independently colonized Caribbean, Central and South America three times, becoming a key component of tropical ecosystems across these regions. Despite the ecological importance of S.

Introduction: Cutaneous scalp metastases from breast carcinoma (CMBC) represent an uncommon manifestation of metastatic disease, with heterogeneous clinical presentations, including nodular or infiltrative lesions and scarring alopecia (alopecia neoplastica). The absence of standardized diagnostic criteria, particularly for alopecic phenotypes, poses challenges to early recognition of CMBC, which may represent either the first indication of neoplastic progression or a late recurrence.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a multicenter cohort of 15 patients with histologically confirmed CMBC.
