Article Abstract

A single institution is not well positioned to manage the process of tissue donations to maximize utility and minimize the costs associated with such transactions. The proposed creation of a 'hub' organization to service the needs and demands associated with tissue procurement and utilization is outlined. The case of Arizona is used as a case study for the proposed model building on existing network in tissue donation and research. The proposed model would consequently be viewed as legitimate by various network stakeholders, including the general public. Finally, the proposed hub-network would be better able to manage the donation, procurement, storage, preservation, distribution, and use of human tissues for all of the potential uses in a single state.

Activity-dependent organization of prefrontal hub-networks for associative learning and signal transformation.

Nat Commun

Article Synopsis
  • Associative learning is essential for adjusting to changes in the environment, and the dorso-medial prefrontal cortex (dmPFC) is believed to play a key role in learning processes, particularly in understanding how it stores and processes information.* -
  • The study developed advanced imaging techniques to observe changes in neural activities in male mouse dmPFC during fear-conditioning, revealing significant reorganization in the neuronal network linked to learned responses.* -
  • Findings indicated that during fear conditioning, neurons that initially respond to unconditioned stimuli became central "hubs" in the network, facilitating the transition from conditioned stimuli to conditioned responses through enhanced connectivity and coactivity.*

IoT-Based Strawberry Disease Prediction System for Smart Farming.

Sensors (Basel)

November 2018

Department of Information and Communications Engineering, Sunchon National University, Jeollanam-do 57922, Korea.

Crop diseases cannot be accurately predicted by merely analyzing individual disease causes. Only through construction of a comprehensive analysis system can users be provided with predictions of highly probable diseases. In this study, cloud-based technology capable of handling the collection, analysis, and prediction of agricultural environment information in one common platform was developed.

Estimation of sparse directed acyclic graphs for multivariate counts data.

The next-generation sequencing data, called high-throughput sequencing data, are recorded as count data, which are generally far from normal distribution. Under the assumption that the count data follow the Poisson log-normal distribution, this article provides an L1-penalized likelihood framework and an efficient search algorithm to estimate the structure of sparse directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) for multivariate counts data. In searching for the solution, we use iterative optimization procedures to estimate the adjacency matrix and the variance matrix of the latent variables.

Whether the heterogeneity in tumor cell morphology and behavior is the consequence of a progressive accumulation of genetic alterations or an intrinsic property of cancer-initiating cells established at initiation remains controversial. The hypothesis of biological predetermination in human cancer was proposed many years ago and states that the biological potency of cancer cells is predestinated in the precancerous stage. The present study aimed to investigate whether the aberrant molecular events occurring in initial cancer stages could eventually influence colorectal cancer (CRC) progression.
