Article Abstract

Luminescence of the novel trimetallic complex {Pt(SCN)2[(mu-SCN)Mn(NCS)(bipy)2]2} originates from a d-d transition of the square-planar [Pt(SCN)4]2- moiety. The band maximum shows a red shift of -99 cm(-1) kbar(-1) under external pressure up to 32 kbar at room temperature. This red shift is comparable to values for crystals where Pt-Pt interaction between stacked complexes is enhanced by pressure, but the crystal structure for the trimetallic complex shows that no metal-metal interaction can occur.

Carbon dots (CDs) represent a new class of nontoxic and sustainable nanomaterials with increasing applications. Among them, bright and large Stokes-shift CDs are highly desirable for display and imaging, yet the emission mechanisms remain unclear. We obtained structural signatures for the recently engineered green and red CDs by ground-state femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy (FSRS), then synthesized orange CDs with similar size but much higher nitrogen dopants than red CDs.

We present a systematic high-pressure investigation of the chlorine-functionalized two-dimensional hybrid perovskite (ClPMA)PbI, integrating high-pressure synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction (HP-PXRD), photoluminescence spectroscopy (HP-PL), and first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Under hydrostatic compression up to 6.18 (±0.

The demand for rapid, field-deployable detection of hazardous substances has intensified the search for plasmonic sensors with both high sensitivity and fabrication simplicity. Conventional approaches to plasmonic substrates, however, often rely on lithographic precision or complex chemistries limiting scalability and reproducibility. Here, a facile, one-step synthesis of vertically aligned 2D nanosheets composed of intergrown CuO/CuO crystallites is presented, fabricated via oxygen plasma discharge on copper substrates.

Herein, a novel class of azo photoswitches based on a phthalimide with an azo bond to the imide ring is presented, exhibiting reversible isomerization under a broad range of visible light irradiation from 405 to 530 nm. Structural variations with heteroaryl or aryl segments attached to the 3-phthalylazo unit exhibit distinct spectral features, such as red-shifted absorption, well-separated absorption bands, and tunable stability of the metastable isomer, ranging from seconds to days. They differ drastically in the half-life of -isomer stability, ranging from several seconds (-methylpyrrole) to days (-methylimidazole).

Hetero-Hydrazone Photoswitches.

The fine-tuning of the (photo)physical properties of molecular photoswitches remains an active area of research, and recently, the incorporation of heterocycles into photoswitch scaffolds has emerged as an effective strategy in this vein. To assess the influence that heterocyclic rings have on hydrazone-based systems, we synthesized a series of photoswitches and examined the impact that heterocycles have on the switching efficiency. TD-DFT calculations and structure-property analyses revealed that heterocycles with basic nitrogen and secondary hydrogen-bonding sites (e.
