The molecular alignment of a merocyanine (MC) J-aggregate monolayer at the air-water interface was determined by a grazing incidence x-ray diffraction method. The obtained molecular arrangement apparently shows that the conventional formula, which accounts only for the transition dipole interaction, is not sufficient to figure out the exciton band wavelength, suggesting the importance of the electric dipole (ED) interaction. We derived a simple formula for the ED interaction energy under an extended dipole approximation and clarified the ED contribution in the MC J aggregate.

The electronic structure, spectroscopic constants, and transition parameters of the diatomic molecule Magnesium monosulfide (MgS) were investigated using high-level multi-reference configuration interaction calculations with the Davidson correction (MRCI+Q) and a consistent basis set for both Mg and S atoms. Potential energy curves and dipole moment functions were computed, allowing for accurate predictions of rovibrational energy levels. Key transition properties, including radiative lifetimes and Franck-Condon factors, were evaluated for transitions within the ground electronic state and the first excited singlet state.

Magnetic heat capacity measurements of a high-quality single crystal of the dipole-octupole pyrochlore Ce_{2}Hf_{2}O_{7} down to a temperature of T=0.02 K are reported. These show a two-peaked structure, with a Schottky-like peak at T_{1}∼0.

We have performed careful measurements of nonlinear transverse conductivity (NLTC) at zero field in the intermetallic compound HoAgGe with two distinct magnetic toroidal (MT) structures. Below 7 K (MT1 phase), the NLTC signal becomes observable and significantly increases with decreasing temperature, whereas between 7 and 11.6 K (MT2 phase), it remains nearly zero.

A charge qubit couples to environmental electric field fluctuations through its dipole moment, resulting in fast decoherence. We propose the p-orbital (pO) qubit, formed by the single-electron, p-like valence states of a five-electron Si quantum dot, which couples to charge noise through the quadrupole moment. We demonstrate that the pO qubit offers distinct advantages in quality factor, gate speed, readout, and size.

Coupling with a resonant optical cavity is well known to modify the coherence of molecular vibrations. However, in the case of molecules coupled to a plasmonic nanocavity mode, the local mechanisms of vibrational coherence decay remain unclear. Here, the dynamics of a few hundred molecules of nitrothiophenol (NTP) within a single plasmonic nanocavity are studied by sum-frequency generation.
