Article Abstract

In nonextensive statistical mechanics, two kinds of definitions have been considered for expectation value of a physical quantity: one is the ordinary definition and the other is the normalized q-expectation value employing the escort distribution. Since both of them lead to the maximum-Tsallis-entropy distributions of a similar type, it is of crucial importance to determine which the correct physical one is. A point is that the definition of expectation value is indivisibly connected to the form of generalized relative entropy. Studying the properties of the relative entropies associated with these two definitions, it is shown how the use of the escort distribution is essential. In particular, the Shore-Johnson theorem for consistent minimum cross-entropy (i.e., relative-entropy) principle is found to select the formalism with the normalized q-expectation value and to exclude the possibility of using the ordinary expectation value from nonextensive statistical mechanics.

Nonequilibrium plasma has attracted significant attention owing to its excellent physical properties, which are highly valued by the industrial community. However, determining the electron temperature in nonequilibrium plasmas proves challenging unless the energy distribution function is approximated as an ideal Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution, where the slope of the Boltzmann plot is directly related to temperature based on traditional Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics. To overcome this problem, Tsallis and Rényi entropies are applied to nonequilibrium systems using nonextensive Tsallis and extensive Rényi statistics, respectively.

Masses of Hadrons, Tetraquarks, and Pentaquarks Through a Tsallis-Entropy Approach in the MIT Bag Model.

Entropy (Basel)

Departamento de Física y Matemáticas, Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez, Ciudad Juarez 32310, Mexico.

We propose a new approach to describe hadrons and new forms of quark matter in the MIT bag model. The proposal is an extension that integrates a Tsallis nonextensive statistics description of quarks and gluons and is shown to capture the main features underlying mass spectroscopy. While the traditional bag model successfully accounts for the masses of light hadrons, it has not been widely used to describe exotic quark configurations.

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the double-differential [Formula: see text] distributions of charged particles across twelve pseudorapidity regions ([Formula: see text], bin width [Formula: see text]) in [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text], 2.36, and 7 TeV. Using a modified Tsallis function incorporating an effective transverse flow velocity, we achieve excellent agreement between the model and experimental data, with consistent fit quality across all [Formula: see text] ranges (validated by Data/Fit panels).

The current study examines, using a nonextensive statistical framework satisfying the H-theorem constraint 0≤q≤2, the dynamics of dust-acoustic shock waves in complex plasmas under the influence of both gravity and microgravity within adiabatic and nonadiabatic fluctuating charge. The results highlight the significant role of gravity in enhancing dissipation and breaking potential symmetry, while microgravity allows for sustained oscillations and more stable electrostatic structures. The impact of the nonextensive parameter q reveals that higher values lead to stronger electrostatic interactions and prolonged wave propagation.

A Study on the Fracture of Brittle Heterogeneous Materials Using Non-Extensive Statistical Mechanics and the Energy Distribution Function.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

The fracture process of heterogeneous materials is studied here in the framework of the discipline of Non-Extensive Statistical Mechanics. Acoustic emission data provided by an experimental protocol with concrete specimens, plain or fiber-reinforced, under bending are taken advantage of. This innovation of the study lies in the fact that the analysis of the acoustic activity is implemented in terms of the energy content of the acoustic signals rather than of their interevent time or their interevent distance.
