Within the context and scope of the forthcoming European Union chemical regulations (REACH), there is a need to be able to prioritise the chemicals for evaluation. Therefore, a simple, pragmatic and adequately conservative approach for the identification of substances of very low or no immediate concern at an early stage is presented. The fundamental principles and basic concepts are derived from the EU Technical Guidance Document and EUSES, and are translated into an easy-to-use rule-based system. For this development, the effect on risk characterisation ratios (RCRs) of the key environmental parameters in EUSES was quantified (taking into account several standardised chemical release scenarios). Using statistical analysis, ranges were identified for each key parameter, within which the end result of the assessment was not significantly affected. This information was then translated into a lookup table from which environmental risk characterisation ratios can be directly read as a function of a few parameters.

Background And Objectives: Pollen-food allergy syndrome (PFAS) is a frequent comorbidity in individuals with hay fever. Identifying risk factors and allergen clusters can aid targeted interventions and management strategies. Objective: This study characterizes PFAS in patients with hay fever and identifies associated risk factors using the mobile health platform, AllerSearch.

The catastrophic Los Angeles Fires of January 2025 underscore the urgent need to understand the complex interplay between hydroclimatic variability and wildfire behavior. This study investigates how sequential wet and dry periods, hydroclimatic rebound events, create compounding environmental conditions that culminate in extreme fire events. Our results show that a cascade of moisture anomalies, from the atmosphere to vegetation health, precedes these fires by around 6-27 months.

Background: People living with HIV(PLWH) are a high-risk population for cancer. We conducted a pioneering study on the gut microbiota of PLWH with various types of cancer, revealing key microbiota.
Methods: We collected stool samples from 54 PLWH who have cancer (PLWH-C), including Kaposi's sarcoma (KS, n=7), lymphoma (L, n=22), lung cancer (LC, n=12), and colorectal cancer (CRC, n=13), 55 PLWH who do not have cancer (PLWH-NC), and 49 people living without HIV (Ctrl).

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of dry eye disease (DED) among children and adolescents aged 9 to 19 years in Fengyang County, and to explore the associations of sleep duration and social jetlag with DED, with the aim of providing scientific evidence for sleep-based interventions to prevent DED in this population.
Methods: Between November and December 2023, 14 primary and secondary schools were randomly selected in Fengyang County, Chuzhou City, Anhui Province, China. Students from Grade 4 to Grade 12 (aged 9-19 years) were invited to participate.
